Let's not discuss about the dedicated and creative porn producers, some of which would do this even for free or in loss, because they enjoy it as art or lifestyle or way to innovate or whatever super cool thing beside making most cash with least effort. Let's not discuss about those old top 5 brands. Let's focus on pure businessmen there, especially new ones who want to start now, people who do this for money only because makes more profit per effort than other things he knows of.

About legit cc sales, at TGP times, 1998-2003 let's say, anyone with no any skill beside marketing, could order custom (exclusive) shootings from Russia/Ukraine content producers: to make enough sets for a decent site with previews it costed just a few thousands dollars (or you could be a little more expensive going Czech...). You could do a ccbill program, start to submit yourself galleries and have lots of affiliates join and submit. Then you could buy a few content updates at times if worth, most not even do this, and prefer to setup new sites and so on. At the time, some content producers also launched own sites, why not, made in russians and czech.

But a few years later (whatever cause is the tubes, the 2008 crisis, or aliens), it ended up that even the cheapest siberian or south ukrainian content producers cried for no sales at $100 per photoset or less, and they stopped launching own sites. Had ICQ with a few people including billers who told me true stories such as "we was billing $20 million a month before, now just $1" and so on. Ok tubes had traffic, still need to make money from it, then someone should buy that traffic and make money from it, who's that? Dating, Cams, Pills, Gambling (strong outside EU) and good old SCams. Dating: mostly fake/bot female profiles, that's it. Some legitimate female profile. Includes marriage agencies in east europe/asia, also mostly not so good faith or real. Setting up one: expensive, difficult. As affiliate: I think it got big hit mostly because you can find dates for free in fb and other free services. My young friends simply add people in fb who are friends of girls they like then via pics and posts know it all then friend the girls and beg them there, all for free.

Cams: I switched to cams in late 2004 converting a photoshoots russian studio into a live cam studio then setting up cam site(s) from 2005, and after 10 years cams are still stable income here. I can't see it ending since that's not porn, that's guys who talk with girls even clothed about silly issues of themselves, occasionally asking to see pussy but really, that's not porn, believe me, it is psychological support from cute girls (from east europe yes, then what...). Still, setting up and esp. launching a cam site seriously cost like $1 million and still it may not go well, so that's not for everyone to start a cam site. Promoting cams as affiliate: nice if you're a tube, so small $$ if you're so small, that's not as easy as it once was promoting pay sites.

Pills: many need cialis, viagra and such, or believe in magical herbs, you know... legal? no, but.. well...

Gambling (strong outside EU): traffic brokers keep up because outside USA there are those casino companies with $1+ million media buy budget per month, they buy it all.

Good old SCams: modern version of dialers, let's say. In mobile, sneaky apps are there...

So "Is the decline of porn, the fault of dating sites?" No... free porn is the issue. Dating itself doing bad because facebook plenty of fish and the free stuff... cams stays up but not for everyone. Easy money, no more.
