There's a service in Melbourne that buys your books and gives you both cash and Amazon credit. So conversion is precisely what I did.

I just can't do the eBook thing. Reading a book is therapeutic, it's not just the reading, it's the ritual of reading. The brand new book smell -- you gotta love that. The feeling of holding the pages back. Reading eBooks is like drinking warm flat beer. You're going to get a buzz, but it's just not the same.

Ya my daughter use to love these scratch and sniff books too when she was younger

Sorry I'm the opposite. I love ebooks and haven't read a book with paper in over 5 years when I got the 1st ipad. And for the record I keep my beer at 34 degrees.

I'm an avid reader. I have enjoyed Jim Butcher's Dresden books so much, I thought I would give his Codex Alera series a try, and got hooked. Currently reading the fifth of that six book series.

Favorite Authors:
Jim Butcher
Dean Koontz
Will Self
Orson Scott Card
Michael Crichton
Clive Cussler
John Le Carre

Favorite Book:
Probably One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez with Antarctic Navigation by Elizabeth Arthur coming in second.

Other than GOT's I've only read one of his other works, that being a children's medieval fantasy book titled The Ice Dragon. I bought it for my niece for Christmas a few years back, but read it before I gave it to her. (Had to make sure it was appropriate reading material for an 8 yr old) :D

One of these days I definitely will check out his other works though.

Generally speaking it is all too often quite obvious as to who here reads a lot and who doesn't. I believe in your case as in many others it has paid off considerably.

By Robert Charles Wilson? I've only read the synopsis but it sounds very Divergent-like in certain ways.

I think a trip to the book exchange is in my near future, as thanks to this thread I now have a new list of titles I want to devour.

I remember enjoying the couple of WildCard books that I read by him. I believe he came up with the concept and invited writer friends to contribute, so they are not wholly by him.

Brief synopsis: Shortly after WWII, an alien virus is released which affects people differently. The majority of the population are unaffected, but you also have Aces, who look unchanged but are given super-human powers, and Jokers, who suffer physical mutations, but usually with no upside to their condition. Basically, you end up with a whole new class system, with many Aces gaining celebrity status, and Jokers becoming 'untouchables.'

Aw thanks.

The Affinities addresses some of the same themes as in Divergent, but it is not YA, and the perspective is how seductive it would be if you could finally find a place where you truly fit in and were understood and loved for who you are. The tech and societal evolution is also very beliavable.

I promise, read this book by Robert Bevan - "Critical Failures" a spoof on dungeons and dragons that is really funny. I think it is only digital though, who cares if its on paper, don't make me tell an ent on you.

World war Z by Max Brooks (noting to do AT ALL with the movie).
ANY BOOK by Chuck Palahniuk (but Fight Club, Choke and Haunted are safe choices)
The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher is pretty nice too if you dig this kind of story.

[QUOTE=SilentKnight;20578384

Favorite book - probably Contact by Carl Sagan.[/QUOTE]

I liked it too, though it wasn't my favourite. Book-wise, I loved the science, but thought the character development was really weak. And I also didn't like the ending. (Spoiler : They find a hidden message a bazillion digits inside PI).

I liked the movie version - it had a much better ending, and they boiled down the 4 main characters of the book into 1.
