Windows 10 Update

Tried over and over for many weeks now trying to upgrade to Windows 10. No luck. Get same error message about 17% the way through: The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during the APPLY_IMAGE operation: 0xC1900101 - 0x2000C

Not uncommon error. IS MicroSucks in cahoots with PC manufacturers to force people to upgrade their PC's? Just bought this one less than a year ago to replace the last one when the motherboard failed.

Care to share? I see 3 options: give up, purchase new machine with 10 preinstalled, or transition to a non-Windows platform: MacOS or mobile device like pad (which is now transitioning as a laptop).

he's thinking the better way is for you to entirely ditch your windows machines and software and spend $1000s of dollars on Apple products.

I have 4 3-year-old Windows machines, I upgraded all of them to Windows 10 without your issue. It's likely not a problem with your hardware or a mass conspiracy to get you to buy a new computer. Obviously something is wrong, but you are reading far too much into it. Try contacting their support.

For the record, I had a bitch of a time upgrading my one week old iMac to Yosemite when it came out. I'm delaying upgrading my iPhone to the new iOS as well since the last 2 iOS upgrades I've done were an absolute nightmare. Apple is not some magical pill.

I was kidding. I did explore the MS forums, and tried all the MS solutions, but none worked. Gonna post there to see what MS can offer. Frustrating.

We upgraded all of our machines without issue -- except one. It was an HP Pavillion Desktop that shipped originally with Windows 7, then was digitally upgraded to 8 then to 8.1 (BUT, on that machine, we had also purchased Windows Media Player add-on). The only difference between that machine and every other one we upgraded without error is that it was an HP machine and it had Windows Media Center (the premium add-on) installed.

What I did on that machine was buy an SSD drive, then an old OEM version of Windows 7, and installed windows 7 from scratch, then upgraded to windows 10 without issue. Then I simply plugged in the old original hard drive, copied over all of my docs and pics and such, then wiped it and made it the drive for storing all of the programs and libraries... keeping the SSD clean for the OS.

Try that, the entire cost was less than $150 and it basically gave us a much improved system without all of the HP bootup crap on it. I should have done that the day I bought the machine.

My machine was pre-installed with 8, and then I upgraded to 8.1. I have a second drive (from previous PC that crashed), but it is HDD. I could try this, thanks! 3 drives would add redundancy for backups - current external HDD is used for that at the moment. I'm gonna make it plan B after I see what MS says.

Windows 10 trashed the Win 7 Pro on my ThinkPad -- it is now resurrected with LINUX (Ubuntu/Mint Dual Boot) the MBR was wasted by Windows 10 and the machine was left unbootable.

There was little on that ThinkPad I use it to travel. One of my Desktop PC's that is a newer 4 core with Windows 10 seems OK (for now).

Upgraded all of my family's computers to Windows 10, then did a clean install (you must do the upgrade first to activate your hardware) and every single family member LOVES Windows 10. I dual boot Windows 10 and Debian, best of both worlds.

Windows 10 brings old hardware back to life...I've put it on old celerons and it runs so much faster then 7 and 8.1.

Oh...Apple does the same thing so does every smartphone being used.

And...

Besides that...the US Government is actively harvesting all you data as well.

Point being...that there are NO SECRETS ANY MORE AND NOWHERE TO HIDE if you use any electronic devices these days.
