![]() Apple Upgrade Program: Tmobile Program: and so froth...
I think reading a book on tax law would make more sense... I do believe that it is NOW better to just BUY the phone UPFRONT and shit.... Anybody else agree? I would always do a Att 2 year contract and pay the subsidy for the phone (I have had saem number for like 15 years so its ok and switching carriers is easy ) Thoughts? -Btw Brassmonkey is a taint |

Hi Juicy,
Of course it is much better to buy the phone. If you take any of the programs offered, you are financing the phone, and paying quite a fortune for that financing too. To the phone company's credit, they do a fantastic job of disguising this. They make it soooooo easy to get a phone with little or nothing down. And even if you ask them, at least here in Canada, they don't use the word financing anymore. It's a "plan", with the cost of the phone buried deep into the monthly cost and service contract. Want a phone? Shop around and buy it outright first, then shop for a carrier. You'll save a lot.

Keep ya locked in.
No more subsidized $200 phones. I got mine for payments of $31.xx but it's $15 off so roughly $16 a month for 24 months. For Verizon loyalty. I hate terms and conditions because not only do they create confusion, more often than not the people explaining them to you don't even know what's going on. I got angry when they pushed an iPad on me that I thought was only $100 but right when I was signing they told me the line was $10 a month for the iPad, that made me angry and of course I told them to reshelve the iPad. I guess more customers will do nothing about that. That $10 line becomes $240 plus in data so the iPad pays for itself over the course of the contract (to Verizon). Companies need to make money, I just hate the continual stacking of all things they do to get it out of you. If you have more money and value time just buy the phones straight up and do a trade-in. |

I was reading how they are pushing hard to capture black millenial's, but women in general. Therefore it would make sense to offer financing to lure them in. Hopefully it will stop all the muggings for iphones.

I just finished the contract for my 5s with Verizon. I will stick to outright purchases from now on. Got my cell bill down to $50 a month instead of $100 a month ($25 of that was for the phone, even though Verizon won't admit it.) Was a rip off at only 16 GB, too.

Verizon is pretty good, I'm in a plan with my entire family which is $40 a line and then $10 per extra GB. The new phone is snappier but I feel less of a jump from my 3GS to the 5. I'm just happy with the 64GB. It's shameful for Apple to still offer 16 GB. Not much room to be a power user with that space. The bill started out as $100. I knocked off a $10 a month third-party insurance charge, taking it down to $90. Then I noticed there was some charge on the bill that they called a smart line connection fee, it was $40 a month. I kept pestering them about what this was, they never really answered, it's basically a fee that they charge you just for having service. I was able to get it down to $15 though since my phone is now paid off and I lowered my package a little bit, which is coming next. With those two adjustments above, I was down to $65 a month. I noticed that I barely touch my data plan, usually just Wi-Fi, so I dropped that down to 1 GB instead of 3 gigabytes which landed me at $50. I'm sure there will be $5 extra in taxes and random "fees" but much better than $100 and I haven't lost any real functionality.

What the carriers are doing is making you pay the full retail price of the phone. You get the phones at 0% interest and 0 down usually only paying tax on that retail price upfront. So then that full price of the phone is broken down into 24 months (depending on the agreement with the carrier) and added to the bill. So either way, you are paying $700 for a new iPhone its just a matter of how soon you pay it off and how soon it will be carrier unlocked.
