:2cents Avoid Facebook Page Buying Scammers

I have a Facebook page with over 300,000 fans which is related to one of my business ventures and i received a comment on one of my posts saying the following...

"Actually i am interested in purchasing your Facebook fan page let me know if you are interested my offer is $45.000 USD i'll pay through Paypal, western union and i can also transfer in your Bank account.wating for your kind and positive response.whenever you read this message please send me request so we can proceed the deal ASAP.regard"

I thought great, this is an opportunity to sell our popular page and invest the money into another project.

I started messaging the person who left the comment, she was called Samantha Alvares.

I asked a few questions about this person to see if they specialize in buying facebook pages etc and she said yes.

I'm overly cautious with selling anything online as there are scammers everywhere so i asked how the deal was going to happen and how i would receive payment.

She mentioned PayPal or Bank Transfer, now i'm not keen on selling things through PayPal and i wasn't sure about Bank Transfer either really. Instead i mentioned using something like escrow so we were both covered legally and i offered to pay all the fees (around $400).

Since then, this person hasn't responded so i can only presume this was some kind of scam, and by doing a quick google search for the comment she made it seems this is pretty much a template which has been posted on many other pages.

I was close to selling it through PayPal and then handing over the rights but i can only presume that this person would of scammed me by reversing/chargeback the funds and a page that took over 4 years to grow would of been lost.

So if you are selling anything like a Facebook page or website in the future, use something like escrow and trust nobody.

Yup, anytime I've sold anything of value online I've used escrow.com.
