But why did they need to see his ID? He had done nothing wrong, and they had the licence plate of the car...

He was detained and asked for his ID to make sure the drivers license is valid .

Regarding what I am watching online, I was thinking that they were looking for some excuse to execute him

If only they'd show up so quick after I report a robbery. I'm just gonna start telling them I seen someone driving kids around with no seat belts.

Seats in the trunk, is that safe? In terms of some car or truck hitting back of the car.

Different locations, different response times.
Also it seems like you are talking about robbery post factum, not robbery in action. This was "in action" call, they had to b on time, robbery post factum is not that urgent.

Nah, they just don't care about vehicle thefts around here. We live in a small community and we've had over 30 gm trucks stolen in the past 4 months. Our community is so small that when we hear about another theft we usually know the person who owned the vehicle. The police don't respond to the theft calls with urgency whether they're in progress or not. They're happy to wait until the vehicle shows up burned on the Indian reserve. Now if you call in to report a drunk driver they'll send out a swat team.

The thefts are not going to stop here until a homeowner shoots one of the thieves.

I will take your words with grain of salt as it is VERY unusual for police to to respond urgently with robbery in progress. Must be pretty unique police department.

Typical small town police force. Part of it has to do with jurisdictions on Indian reserves, but there's no reason they can't stop these thefts. They know where they are going, exact type of vehicles they are targeting, etc. I could setup a bait truck and track these fuckers down in a week. But that's what we are paying these clowns 90k a year to do.

Stolen car alert: COPO Camaro | Hemmings Daily

Here's how our police handle thefts of 100k cars. They'd rather let the owner buy it back from the thieves than have to go on the reserve themselves to deal with the wagon burners.

Where do you live that cops are paid $90k a year? Or are you suggesting that is how much the entire force combined receives?

Why wouldn't it be safe? Some cars have back seats but no trunks.

This was really a traffic stop, but because they had reason to believe a child's life was in danger that was their primary concern.

you're right

i just checked and see that this is a hatchback config with rear facing child seats, like those wagons. i had assumed it was a trunk on the model s.

Ontario, Canada.

A lot of them make what we call the Sunshine List, which is any public employee that makes over $100K a year.

http://www.brantfordexpositor.ca/201...t-opp-salaries

Of course after the incompetent liberals approved a one year pay raise of 8.5%, that's to be expected.

A first class OPP constable currently earns $83,483 a year, and a pay hike of about 8.5% would raise that to just under $90,600.

Damn, you keep editing your comments before I can finish my response ... I am trying to think of a hatchback that has seating back there. Maybe that's why it is a sedan.

anyway, a trunk is no place to stuff the kids. for several reasons and i also would not put the kids in the hatch of a model s, due to rear collision safety.

I have no idea. This is the OPP salary grid.

Ontario Provincial Police | Careers

So I'm assuming none of that is overtime for a 3 year first class constable. Sounds like flat salary. I'm assuming overtime is what pushes many of them over the 100K mark a year putting them on the sunshine list.

Baddog, were your seats legit (not "home made" lol) in the trunk of station wagon?
Usually station wagons have looong trunks and definitely no seats, rear end collision is not a problem like in this tesla.

Check out how far away from the back of the car is the last row of seats in a modern station wagon:

they were legit seats. Back when you could buy a station wagon the size of a bus, covered in fake wood grain, and with a 460 cubic inch big block.

i think the idea that the kids would be facing outwards freaks people out. i wouldn't put my kid in that kind of car. at least with vans or suv's that have the 3 row seating there is a seat between the kid and the back door. not sure how much that would help in a high impact collision but its probably better than the kids watching the car crash right into them.
