Note: this song will sound much better if you're wearing parachute pants (Don't laugh-I used to wear them in the 80s and they were pretty cool...or at least people didn't laugh to my face) lol

I was thinking why aren't there good rock bands like that nowadays.
I mean lets take metal music - top of the top (gathering concert hals etc) are STILL the old veterans like ac dc, metallica, iron maiden etc.
Same with rock music.
It simply does not look that there are actual "real rockers" out of the newer generation.
Why no pink floyds of the today.
It is not like people stopped loving real rock.

All of the bands that you mentioned were what I would consider real pioneers. Add Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, we could probably name half a dozen more. What makes each of these bands "great" is that they all have their own true, pure sound. If you heard a brand-new song over the radio that you never knew existed by any one of those bands today, you would probably be able to pinpoint the band within a few guesses. Most modern rock is not like that at all. Too much straight up copying instead of melding of styles.

I grew up on all of that stuff. I still listen to that, but modern rock I don't listen to it all. Every now and then a modern metal band might catch me but it's very very rare. If I'm listening to metal is most likely going to be Slayer or some other metal hairband from the 80s or 90s.

I still love rock 'n roll, heavy metal, but truth be told I very rarely listen to it anymore. Though I will go to the concerts any day. Just grabbed some Tool tickets yesterday. Not the same era, but real pioneers. Unique sound that they created based on all of their influences.

Don't have any answers.

I'm sure my father probably said, "Whatever happened to the Glen Miller bands and musicals by Rogers & Hammerstein?" (my dad's favorite singer in the day was George McCrae from 'Carousel').

The closest I've come to somewhat new rock that I like is the Mutt Lange produced 'Darkhorse' by Nickelback - and I absolutely hated that band up until Mutt worked with them.

The latest AC/DC just sounds like a regurgitation of the old stuff.

Face it...we're gettin' old.

Is it just me or does AC/DC's stuff sound very similar to previous stuff after their Back In Black album in 1980?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan but it seems like all the AC/DC albums you need to cover all your AC/DC needs are Highway to Hell and Back In Black.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I'm open for enlightenment.

We may be getting old, but I am also looking from the perspective of todays 18 year old metal/rock fan. What metal/real rock bands are they listening to that are bringing in 50K concert audiences?
