Have you converted your old site to responsive?

The issue of responsive design has been around for some time now, especially since Google bump the search index for mobile friendly sites vs non-mobile friendly.

Bootstrap and foundation being the main frameworks to go with.

However, have you converted your old site to a new responsive design? I ask because I have done this with a few of my sites, but I have a huge site that was built back in 2006 and still uses tables.. I'm currently writing all new html/css/js on a beta domain and plan to have the new responsive design completed in a month or so.

But I wonder just how much of a difference this really makes.. Its a pain in the ass and I'd like to think it is truly worth it.

The thing is my preferred traffic are people that actually own a computer or laptop. Simply because you get a better experience and more access to all features, which on a smart phone you can still access the features, but it is a little cumbersome.

Has anyone converted a large CMS site to responsive and noticed a big difference? On my other sites that were mostly static html membership sites, I didn't notice much of a change.

I only have paysites so this may not help you. But I did release 'mobile designs' and saw: a drop in sales. So then I tried 'responsive designs' and saw: a drop in sales.

Check out one of my 'non-responsive/non-mobile' designs on your smart phone:

Fellucia Blow - Welcome - Erotic Blowjob Videos
Welcome to Wicked Sexy Melanie - Free Preview

Go past the Splash page. What I found is this design - based on tables and the same as my desktop version - does GREAT with mobile users! The tables/thumbs auto-resize depending on the device, the video plays, and the thumbs can be expanded (zoom in) which causes better 'user inter-action' other than scroll scroll scroll exit.

So that's my experience. I do not do responsive or mobile designs. LOL Best of luck!!

Just don't redirect mobile traffic and make sure it doesn't look really messed up on mobile and you're good.

I feel the same way.. My non-mobile sites display fine in all other devices, and the best part is the design does not change - which is a cardinal sin in regards to website design basics. Users on smart phones will see the same layout, menus, etc. as they see on their desktop.

Yes! One of the most annoying things about 'mobile designs' is how they only partially display the entire site. You get an edited version of the site, a stripped down version. Just make sure your site displays well on mobile and leave it.

Hopefully you're still targeting mobile traffic, mobile traffic raised from around 20-30% to close to 70-80% in the last year.

True mobile traffic is on the rise and should not be overlooked, however how many people access the web using a tablet or smart phone while away from their desktop or laptop?

I think those stats are showing two things; people who are accessing the web with additional devices, and people who previous did not have any access and now able to access using a cheap phone.

For example I'm always online to access messages, text, calls, etc. on my phone. But any real work is on my desktop (downloading software, designing, coding, etc.). I use my phone for lite stuff.

I agree that as long as your site loads and functions properly in all devices then you should be good.

I did, few months ago and nothing happened. Conversions are same, traffic went slightly up but that is all.

Literally the same here. Makes one wonder was the time spent on it worthwhile at all.

I'm also wondering.. are mobile surfers ever buying porn via phone?

aren't you guys missing one big point here?
Google is showing only mobile friendly sites to mobile users, at least the responsive sites end up on page 1/2/3 etc.
so does it not mean that by not having a responsive site one is losing big on search engine traffic?

Possibly, but I think an important point is whether or not your target audience is using/purchasing your product via mobile devices. Its not just about the traffic, its about the conversions.

Who cares if your site gains an extra xxxx hits per day if your product or service is not tailored to a mobile audience.

Like a previous poster posted - does anyone really access and purchase porn via their phone?

Everyone says that they are buying and that is important. From my personal perspective, why would anyone watch porn on phone or tablet? I mean, I am using those devices but only as help until I come at my desktop.

Many sites offer $1 trials or one-click upsells via mobile. People are used to micro purchases via mobile - upgrade this app for $1, buy more birds at Angry Birds for $0.99 etc. So offering a $1 trial that converts to a full membership is what some sites do.

I however do not do this because philosophically I do not like lowering prices or devalueing my product. So to answer your question: SOME people buy on mobile but WHAT they buy (or how much) is the real question.

I guess you don't masturbate in the office bathroom eh? Unless you use the handicap stall where there's more room to balance your laptop.
