Anyone familiar with Magento sites?

I have someone that wants to switch from their wordpress-based ecommerce site to magento. I have never used magento before but have heard good things.

Is magento easy for someone to get used to if they have been using wordpress? Complicated to setup? They sell auto parts and want to be able to have a detailed product search by year, make, model, etc. that the current solution doesn't provide. Also want to be able to switch currencies on the site since they get lots of customers in both US and Canada.

Also looking for a hosting company that will handle that. I've read recommendations for siteground.com when using magento but I haven't heard much else about them. My current host doesn't seem to fit the minimum requirements so I can't even download it and play around with it yet until I setup another hosting account somewhere.

Any good magento forums you know of for newbs?

Magento can be complicated, nothing like WordPress/WooCommerce. It will be not be an easy transition. I recommend trying this service. Cart2Cart - Automated Shopping Cart Migration Service

Hosting companies do not include this type of transfer. The host will only do the Magento install for you and copying your existing files over. They do not provide the transition, (export/import) and customizations that you are seeking.

Hope this helps

Always/only run it on a VPS or dedicated server.

The CMS is robust and there are a million developers and freelancers you can use.

My current content site is on Magento. Like everything, there is good and bad. I have other sites that run off them also. The main bad thing is if you want to modify the hell out of it can be a pain.

i have had a few. Its a fucking nightmare. Megento sucks. its extremely bloated and complicated and even a simple change in the template is a total nightmare and requires many files to be modified (if you can find them in the retarded 20 level deep directory structure).

I would stick to wordpress and woocommerce or something easier to manage and customize. Never again in my life would i consider using magento for anything.

Hi,

If you are looking for a great processor the cart and a killer merchant account rate, please let us know. Magento is integrated with NETbilling.
