Did SuperBowl 50, game & halftime, kind of suck?

The game: somewhat boring, hardly any sensational plays. Neither team "went for it." I never saw so many punts in one game. Even the quarterback for the Panthers wouldn't dive for his own ball.

And the half time?

The stage, nothing much. Cold Play, good, not great. Same old crap from Beyonce (no singing, just rapping and shaken that big ass) and the "Michael Jackson impersonator" Bruno Mars with an old repeat hit. I was waiting for a great musician to appear at the last second and blow the audience away...

I thought the floor would open up and Elton John would rise with a piano and play Rocket Man....
Or Paul McCartney would appear and do a song from David Bowie. Or maybe Billy Joel was hiding out and ready to pop... Or Van Halen!!

OR maybe they were saving Lady Gaga for another appearance?, but she never showed.

Then I saw Bruce Springsteen, but that was just a video flashback. So I gave up looking.

Nobody. This was supposed to be a HUGE show.
The show had no luster, no fire and nothing that made you say, "Wow! What a show!"

This was Super Bowl 50. Where was the KABOOM!!! for Halftime??

The only part of the Bowl game that really kicked ass, had heart and emotion, was the National Anthem by Lady Gaga. She nailed it. Great voice and emotion.

You would have to like football to appreciate a defensive game like Superbowl 50

Very little excitement.

Usually with the superbowl there is either a team you really like or really hate, so you are going for one team or the other. In this case it was "blah". No great plays. Coldplay for half time?

Even the commercials kind of sucked.

come on. a sack stripped fumble recovery touchdown is a great play- if you like NFL. and that's just one off the top of my head.

It was a hard-nosed defensive battle fought in the trenches. Maybe arena football is more to your liking?

If anything, it was good to see Cam Newton humbled. Ron Rivera is a douche so I didn't want him to coach a SB-winning team either.

The game SUCKED and Cam Newton CHOKED like the little spoiled bitch he really is..
Halftime show was a JOKE.
Coldplay??? The lead singer has such a weak, whiny, girlyman voice I could barely hear him.

More proof that all the talented musicians are dying off and we're left with fucking Coldplay and Bruno Mars. How pathetic!

I haven't figured out WHAT the hell they are thinking these days for the HalfTime Show.

For a few years there they were rocking it. The Rolling Stones, U2, The Who...but for the last couple of years it's been insanity.

Katy Perry last year???WTF?
Coldplay, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars this year? Triple WTF???

This is FOOTBALL. Rough, rugged, manly sport.
AC/DC should have played the halftime show.

The audience for the Super Bowl are football fans.
Coldplay is a fucking wimpy ass b.s. band that overly-emotional guys who have never picked up a football or watched a game in their lives really love.

Get some kick-ass bands in there. Even some country guys...Garth Brooks would have been a great choice.

This is like some kind of bizarre "social engineering" experiment the last couple of years.

I must disagree with that part of your post. A ton of records were set in this game for one thing. Longest punt return in SB history being one. Manning - oldest QB to start in a SB in history for another.

It was a defensive slugfest. Tremendous amount of pass rush, tons of sacks, several hard hits causing fumbles. D and turnovers were key in this game. Anyone going into this hoping to see a Montana-to-Rice-esque airborne attack extravaganza were in for major disappointment.

Make no mistake, Broncos defense won this game. And when D's win the score is never huge. I'm surprised there was even 34 points scored, I thought the final score would amount to a lot less.

The moment when Newton hesitated and chose not to dive in and try to recover the ball I knew the Panthers were done.

I never watch the halftime show, so could care less. But the game itself was a great game. A defensive battle where Denver's D won them the game.

The halftime show was nothing more than a propaganda piece staged in front of millions of viewers. There was so much use of symbolism, I cringed several times. Rainbow flags, rainbow everything really, Beyonce and her "Black Panther" dancers, the big X they made on the field, the token white guy getting shadowed by the black and Hispanic performers.

If you haven't already noticed, the NFL is a whore. They'll sell the rights to their own children if it was legal. Even their fucking awards are sponsored. FedEx Player of the Year, Bridgestone Performance of the year...blah blah blah. It's not longer a sport, it's a performance being pieced out and sold to the highest advertising bidder. It's no longer for blue collared people.

there's certainly many things to dislike about the NFL. off field player behavior being my big issue with it and roger goodell. nevertheless, the game is still very much a sport. a true team sport played and coached by the highest caliber athletes and strategists and more. the fact it is a sport allows it to rise above the problems.

Agreed, but my PVR allows me to mostly ignore all that and just focus on the game. And the commercials, as long as they continue to entertain me.

I did watch the halftime but mostly just to see if Beyonce would pull a 'Janet' or something.

halftime shows are more aimed at the women / gfs in the audience to keep them from dying of total boredom.

so this one was a success.

Hate to say it, but I think they made the right choice to hit the biggest target market, the growing youth who actually give a shit, aged between 18 and early 30's.

As much as I love all the bands you've mentioned, they simply aren't relevant to a lot of people in that age group. They pick out the shit that has graced the pop charts recently.

I find it hard to believe the NFL would be catering to the 75,000 people in the audience, and not the 114.4 million people watching on TV. Pepsi bought the rights to the halftime show, and they could give a rat's ass if the women in the stands were bored or not.

Still always amuses me how people talk about a halftime show and commercials when it comes to a sporting event.

If anything, that's the two parts of a "Final" over here that I couldn't give two shit's about!

Halftime show was a JOKE.
Coldplay??? The lead singer has such a weak, whiny, girlyman voice I could barely hear him.

More proof that all the talented musicians are dying off and we're left with fucking Coldplay and Bruno Mars. How pathetic!
Not a fan of Coldplay but Chris Martin is a talented musician. And Bruno Mars is incredibly talented. Just because you don't like them doesn't make them not talented.

But agreed the half time show just seemed blah.

Well, I believe they are "talented" in the way a puppeteer or Gong Show contestant who can juggle pudding is "talented".

But I get your point.

Super Bowl Halftime Show Marred By Functioning Sound System - The Onion - America's Finest News Source

"Super Bowl Halftime Show Marred By Functioning Sound System
SPORTS NEWS IN BRIEF
February 7, 2016
Vol 52 Issue 05 Food · Sports · Music · Nfl Football · Super Bowl 50

SANTA CLARA, CAâ??Disappointing the thousands of fans in attendance as well as an estimated 100 million viewers watching at home, the Super Bowl 50 halftime show was marred Sunday by the stadiumâ??s functioning sound system, sources confirmed. â??Right from the beginning, the sound was working normally, and unfortunately, I could clearly hear the singing,â? said 29-year-old spectator Joe Kessler, adding that the showâ??s audio feed, which was amplified throughout the stadium and transmitted to television broadcasts with no technical issues, made the performances by Beyonce, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars completely unbearable. â??There was definitely nothing wrong with the speakers or the microphones. Itâ??s a shame, because the perfect sound quality just ruined the whole thing.â? Kessler added that he hopes Super Bowl organizers would learn from the incident and avoid a similar disaster next year."

yup

guess they're brainwashed because the media hypes it up like it's the 2nd coming of christ. If you get conditioned like that since birth you go along with the hype.

You would certainly never see Tom Brady back away from a fumble the way Cam did

and why is beyonce so popular? Her "music" is fucking horrible, she always manages to create complete shit that is so bad that it irritates. When i listen to the radio i can mostly just ignore the bad songs that come up, but her songs in particular are so bad and annoying that i always have to turn it off.

Nope.

It's nothing more than a fun time with friends and family indulging in food and beverages spectating a game.

No need to psychobabble it.

This is the way to do a rainbow at Levi.

They should've had Lady Gaga do a halftime song set with the surviving Grateful Dead members and John Mayer filling the Jerry role. That would have been a thousand times more exciting and meaningful than what they did because of the synchronicity of the 50 year anniversaries.

Of course a band that has roots in huge LSD laced parties probably doesn't make the "family friendly" cut... but it would've been way more meaningful in terms of being in the Bay Area, and the band's historic and unique relationship to the tech pioneers that make the sound, network, and visual arts at Levi so unique.

I think Cam wasn't "avoiding" the fumble melee. It only seems that way in slo-mo. In real speed he is trying to anticipate the bounce and that one split millisecond of indecision is what makes him hesitate anticipating a bounce towards him mistakenly.

Glad the Panthers lost though. That is what they get for his stepping on a 12 flag. Also, a 43 year old who moves like he has bricks in his pants is pretty cool winning the big one on the eve of his retirement; that is always going to be good even if it isn't that interesting to watch. But, I like great defensive games. D in any sport only gets the credit they deserve when a championship is won.
