Here comes my inner nerd. For me, the best thing about Top Gun was the SOUND. It was one of the first movies here to be shown in THX. There was a lot of hype about THX back then so if a movie was available in this format, I always chose it.

I can still remember how it sounded. It played at the Imperial which was the first theatre to get THX. Un fucking real. LOUD, ultra-clean multi-channel, ultra wide-range sound. Really impressive.

Besides that, the movie was pretty good. I didn't like Kelly MeGillis. I think any other actress would have been better suited for the part.

have you watched this movie lately though? I remember in the 80's having the vhs of it and in the 90's it was one of the first laserdiscs I bought. I loved it for surround and thx back then. Well I never bought it on dvd or blu ray till last year when I bought a 3d tv. I saw top gun was available in 3d blu ray. The movie actually sucks compared to today's movies.. I still love some 80's comedy's but funny movies will always be funny, but movies like this have a shelf life IMHO.

It's like watching the movie Wargames. It was great back then and ya it might be worth watching once today for nostalgia but it's not as good as current movies like it
