Zuckerberg's Real Thoughts On Those Who Give Up Privacy: "Dumb Fucks"

An early instant messenger exchange Mark had with a college friend won't help put these concerns to rest.

According to SAI sources, the following exchange is between a 19-year-old Mark Zuckerberg and a friend shortly after Mark launched The Facebook in his dorm room:

Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard

Zuck: Just ask.

Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS

[Redacted Friend's Name]: What? How'd you manage that one?

Zuck: People just submitted it.

Zuck: I don't know why.

Zuck: They "trust me"

Zuck: Dumb fucks.

I wouldn't trust Zuckerberg with my coffee money - but I'm thankful I'm not minutely scrutinized or held accountable for every single offhand comment, whimsical thought, out-with-the-guys bragging, drunken dumbass thing I've ever said in my life - and have it accusingly presented back to me as being representative of my real thoughts.

Especially shit said back in my youth.

Zuckerberg has always come off as a smuck to me. I've never done the whole Facebook thing as I've always seen it as a serious invasion of privacy..

I honestly can't believe people put the shit out there that they do connected to their real names..

The majority of people have probably never had something come back and bite them in the ass.

Some are doomed to learn things the hard way.

I think it's more of a today's kids have grown up knowing nothing different. Their lives have been on social media since they hit puberty.

It's sort of funny in a way, that with my generation, there is just a small circle of people I went to school with that are on Facebook. While it's neat to see those people it's also interesting to see how many never really jumped online.. (I'm not that old 43, but it's like a half/half thing of people I grew up with that are on FB)

On the other hand I also see how useful it is for keeping contact with people. With my traveling I meet a lot of people and sometimes think of giving in on my FB ban.. as it would be nice to more easily keep in touch with people.

...then I think of all the stupid shit people post and realize why I never bothered...lol

I just recently went back on FB after a ban of several years. But I'm restricting it to posting my own photography rather than day-to-day banality that most others post. No sharing of other people's garbage...just my own. And filtering it so it's just the best of the best.

But you're quite right about it being interesting the small amount of people from back in the school days that never ventured onto FB. I'm 51 and grew up in a rural (mostly farm) community...and the only ones I see on Facebook these days are the ones who moved into the larger city/urban areas.

Years ago I deleted my FB account 'cuz I was just tired of seeing people sharing and recycling the same junk over and over...not creating anything themselves. Everyone's in the audience...no one on stage, so to speak. It was just insipid.

Nothing's really changed, of course. It's the same crap these days.
