Receiving Emails but Can't Send Help

I use Thunderbird and it's always worked fine but for some reason I can't send emails.
I seem to be getting them just fine but when I try to send I get a Login to Server Failed message..

Any ideas?

I love Thunderbird except for this reason. It is not very friendly to add or edit accounts. I remember one day it took me hours to figure out how to add another account. I'm sorry this isn't very helpful but I feel for you Best of luck in finding a solution.

I use Thunderbird for 16 accounts at the same time. Its a breeze.

If it can't reach the server it has zero to do with Thunderbird. 3 main options:

1- If new account, you have something set incorrectly. Maybe server calls for TSL or different port, etc.

2- If older account, maybe the mail server that sends the mail is simply down. Happens often.

3- If you are away from your normal location (say in a hotel), those places often block the main email port (25) to avoid people doing spamming on their networks.

Well I will go for #2 then but would I still receive mail if the server is down?

Yes you could. All depends on the server set-up.

I use Thunderbird with a few GMail accounts. The server receiving email, and allowing me to download it, is a different machine from the one sending out mail.

Make sure you're using the right server settings/using the correct server.
Test if you can send in webmail.
Maybe try turning off your firewall, if any, temporarily and see if you can send.
Maybe try setting the port to 587 or 465, sometimes port 25 can be blocked.
Try resetting your email password.

Yes hosts often run different software for outgoing and incoming mail. Often hosted on seperate servers too.

If it worked well before, it is either a temporary error/downtime or your email host have changed settings, like requiring SSL certification which then usually goes via port 995 instead of normal SMTP port 25.

Simply put, ask your email host for correct account settings.

Check your outgoing mail server settings.

Your incoming mail is from a pop3 server, while your outgoing mail is a different server (SMTP). If you are receiving mail, you are properly logged in into your pop3 server and thats fine. If you can't send mail, then there's a problem connecting to your smtp server. Check the account credentials and port number, etc. If your SMTP service is provided by your ISP, call them and they will be able to help you. If its provided by a 3rd party such as AuthSMTP.com, check with them.
