I'm fairly certain it's real...

Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright has publicly identified himself as Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakam

His admission ends years of speculation about who came up with the original ideas underlying the digital cash system. Mr Wright has provided technical proof to back up his claim using coins known to be owned by Bitcoin's creator. Prominent members of the Bitcoin community and its core development team have also confirmed Mr Wright's claim. Signed blocks Mr Wright has revealed his identity to three media organisations -the BBC, the Economist and GQ. At the meeting with the BBC, Mr Wright digitally signed messages using cryptographic keys created during the early days of Bitcoin's development. The keys are inextricably linked to blocks of bitcoins known to have been created or "mined" by Satoshi Nakamoto..

"These are the blocks used to send 10 bitcoins to Hal Finney in January [2009] as the first bitcoin transaction," said Mr Wright during his demonstration. Renowned cryptographer Hal Finney was one of the engineers who helped turn Mr Wright's ideas into the Bitcoin protocol, he said. "I was the main part of it, but other people helped me," he said. Mr Wright said he planned to release information that would allow others to cryptographically verify that he is Satoshi Nakamoto.

His house is just up the street from me, he already had a lot of money, bitcoin was more of a project than a money maker for him.

This pics taken from the foot path
http://www.abc.net.au/news/image/737...x2-940x627.jpg

Just looks like an run down old persons house, where you wonder if someone is dead in there, only give away something else might be there is a few security cameras on the outside. He never wanted fame or money, and could not give two fucks what anyone thinks.

Interesting. There was a lot of chatter several months ago about how there seemed to be a trail of breadcrumbs leading to this guy, but some things didn't add up - like his public keys using algorithms or fields that didn't exist at the time they were supposedly created.

If he can sign the original Bitcoin blocks to prove ownership then it's pretty much a slam dunk.

Not sure whether announcing "I'm Nakamoto, now go away and leave me alone" is going to work.

Can someone please explain why he or the members of his team decided that he needs to reveal his identity, and at the same time, during the interview he says that he wants this to be the last time in front of the camera for him?!
Why was he 'forced' to reveal his identity, and why now?

probably just a stunt by some guy who might be associated with the creator but not him since bitcoin is out of the limelight and out of a lot of peoples minds these days. doesn't bode well for their investment in it.

I have changed my mind. I now believe that Craig Wright to be the creator of Bitcoin.
I also believe we will see indisputable proof within the next couple of days.

I?m Sorry
I believed that I could do this. I believed that I could put the years of anonymity and hiding behind me. But, as the events of this week unfolded and I prepared to publish the proof of access to the earliest keys, I broke. I do not have the courage. I cannot.
When the rumors began, my qualifications and character were attacked. When those allegations were proven false, new allegations have already begun. I know now that I am not strong enough for this.
I know that this weakness will cause great damage to those that have supported me, and particularly to Jon Matonis and Gavin Andresen. I can only hope that their honour and credibility is not irreparably tainted by my actions. They were not deceived, but I know that the world will never believe that now. I can only say I?m sorry.
And goodbye.[\QUOTE]

My buddy told me about it when it came out and I laughed. I didn't think many would go for it. I gave him a small amount of money anyway. He asked for more and more and I would give him the money and say you owe me half when it takes off never thinking it would. When it went over 2 bucks I about died LOL. I thought we were so lucky. We were. It was all luck to me.

The comments here are a good read: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11609611

In particular this one: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11610101

I'm starting to think this Wright guy is a total nutcase. Or a sociopathic con. Possibly both.
