How the hell do laundromats make any money at all?

There is no money at laundry stores
Where is the money?
I don't see it.
You get some quarters sometimes while paying electricity and water and insurance and for the location and for the machines and to maintain everything and internet and ac and God knows what

Got to be a tough business today depending on where you're located. Electricity and water/sewer costs are brutal around here. I know a guy that owns one in a town of 2000 or so people and he says it's profitable. He's owned it for decades.

You are missing the point, it's a front, a loss leader. One part of the business is making a killing, well the laundromat cleans the profit.

Like with any business if you shop around and know what to look for they can be a cash cow

I've always thought it could be a good business in the right location. Minimal staff cost which is always a killer. Also, you've got people trapped there for hours waiting for their laundry which means a a great chance for upsells.

They regularly sell for 8 times free cash flow so they must make fairly decent coin, and apparently with low maintenance. Only thing I've seen with a better ratio among "common" businesses is an automated car wash.

100% truth. My father (Now long since dead) owned a Laundromat (Or Launderette as we say in the UK) for the exact reason stated above.

It was a front for the 8mm porn loops he sold. Not only as a base of operations, but as a way to wash the money.

Bullshit.

Location location location.

Near apartments, college students and lower income neighborhoods.

Some of these places people have to wait an hour to get a dryer.

They let you wash for free but upsell soap with pre-checked cross sales for fabric softener.

If that were true then I think we'd a see a lot more expensive "art galleries".
You can't clean $1mil in a front loader that takes quarters; but you can burn 10 paintings pretty easily.

Bingo! Don't forget the snack & soda machines too. Some offer free WiFi and make $$ on advertising, like in Vegas.

Profits

Don't know if they're still around, but there were some locations here in town called Duds & Suds. They sold beer for you to drink while washing your clothes.
Location is everything. I had a friend who was the manager for one and it was always busy from the many nearby apartments. They also picked up more money from the service of washing and folding your clothes for you, so you didn't have to wait.

people will always need to wash clothes. costs like electricity and water are built into the price of washing and drying. there are laundromats that upsell for hotter water even. people can't go without washing clothes, thus a laundromat can and should be a cash cow if done right.

Reminds me of the laundrymat by my first apartment in old town Sacramento. Everyone knew guys waiting for their laundry could get a blowjob by the old lady crackhead manager in the backroom for $10.

I used to live in an area where there was a laundromat nearby that had a bar and small kitchen in it. They sold booze and simple bar foods like sandwiches, burgers, appetizers etc. They also had a few pool tables and some lottery video poker machines. The place was always packed.

I'm talking about small town ones like they have around here
You never see more than four people in there, if that
Except on free laundry day - then it's packed

How they make any money is beyond me . .
One has a very good upsell - they'll wash your clothing by the pound for a big price. There's money there, for sure.
This other one recently put a couple of gaming machines in - that is perfection right there. Perfection.

Otherwise if they're not selling beer or games or SOMETHING ELSE I don't see where they get the money for lights to stay on . I have always been very interested in gaming machines
A good machine in a good location could take in what the whole small town laundry store does . . it could do their week in an hour without rent, power, water, machines, etc etc etc

I meant where is the money in the basic laundry store only laundry store . . most don't even seem to bother keeping their vending or soap packet dispensers working

Love this state since when I started having gaming machines they suddenly cracked down on them and made a big production of bulldozing down confiscated machines - then now I fuck around and see that they have state licensing now that I don't have any - YaY
I hate this state extreme

I'm so stupid that if I saw them selling beer or other things I'd be sitting here wondering how they make any money ... come on, man

PS: WHY THE HELL don't they have topless laundromats where men can go in there, and they will wash the clothing, and then they could probably charge $100-$400 for washing a clothing

Good for you, because that means you don't sit there all day trying to count the customers.

I put my shit in the washer and leave, so I'm there for all of 3 minutes.
Then I come back and put the clothes in the dryer and it takes 3 minutes.
Then I come back and get the clothes out of the dryer and it takes 3 minutes.
If you don't drive by during one of the 3 minute windows then you never see me.

So how many people do you not see that are actually using the machines?

Very good point, but I am somewhat creepy because I'll hang around across the street from these places sometimes just observing because there's something wrong with me. I once sat in my car counting automobile traffic in front of my building every day for a week . .

But you make a very good point, and, I have to admit that I do go in there when normal people probably wouldn't. .

What blew me away was this: The other night I'm in there and there's the standard 3-4 people and TWO OF THEM were sitting there feeding money into the gaming machines. One of them lost nearly $100 and the other one I am not sure what she put in but she was playing for a long time, too . . .
Gaming machines are fucking awesome is what they are.

Yep, no doubt; gambling is big money.
That's why in most states it's only legal when the government runs the games.

Yeah those fucks
They give horrifying payout rates on their lotteries
Meanwhile the casinos in kansas are the roughest most rapist of anywhere
I think their slots pay out maybe .3%

I LOVE gaming machines
Many of them make as much money as a rental house or apartment and it just sits there
Hell, there was one a few years ago at the Conoco where all of the dealers hung out and it was doing $3500/mo - - just a simple quarter pusher like I had ! ! !

I can't even IMAGINE what those big fancy ones at shopping malls are making ... not to mention those kids game palace token places I use to see . . . f f s

If they didn't make any money. They wouldn't exist. Maybe legit money, or not. Easy to check on if it's money laundering.

Lucifer isn't Satan.

Did you know that Christians argue whether Lucifer is Satan? Lucifer was buried & worms ate his body, so he can't be Satan as Satan is a spirit being and was never mortal.

Lucifer is my nickname for my GOD DAMNED GRANDMOTHER and lucifer himself may not have been satan but my GOD DAMNED GRANDMOTHER SURE AS THE FUCK WAS IF ANY HUMAN BEING EVER COULD HAVE BEEN .

She meant the world to me my whole life
She was a sociopathic chaos making animal and a despicable human being .

She is dead now .
My cousin apparently killed her ass .
Lucifer is wherever it belongs .
My only regret about the death of that thing is that it never had to pay for all it has done. It hurt a lot of people who will be dealing with the consequences of its action for years to come.

Did you know that every human being believes that they know anything about any of that shit?
Afterlife, spiritual realm, heaven, hell, who picked the right God, etc
Each idiot I ever talked to about it was 100% sure they knew the history and that everyone else was wrong
I'm glad you dropped in to drop some of your own personal fact on us, feel me

Myself, personally, I get tired of having to do shit over again . . I got a washer and dryer, I should have a washer and dryer.
My cousin is lucky I managed to keep my cool when all of that went down

You may want to ask the Google machine "how do laundromats make money"

Like those "rent to own" places, laundromats make money from financially depressed people who live in an apartment that is not big enough to fit a washer and dryer, or from people who can't afford to buy them. The cost to wash your clothes at a Laundromat is much higher than the cost of doing it with your own machine. Especially when you have to buy the soap in those little packets at the laundromats too.

With good upsells like everyone is talking about I agree with you - they're probably great. When it come to setting up a location, paying rent or a lease, buying thousands and thousands of dollars worth of machines, paying a water bill, buying electricity, providing wifi for the little bastads, and on and on and on for a few coins here and there FUCK THAT

With juicy profit adders / enhancers / whatever you fancy motherfuckers call it, I'm sure it's worth it

Best reasons to go to the laundromat even if you have a washer and dryer :

- You have multiple loads to wash and dry and want to be done as fast as possible. Load 5 washers at once!

- Big front loaders can wash blankets/sheets and do not use an agitator like most home machines

- Sometimes their dryers are better and you don't get surprising electric bills

- You hate doing laundry but can get though it by drinking at the sports bar next door

- If you are good looking like me, females are there and are not drunk

- It might be the only way to get a webmaster out of the fucking house

There is money to be made with laundrymats business.
The only thing is You better to fix everything your self to see some of the profit.
If you think to buy it and hire a specialist to fix your machine following that well
NO THERE IS NO MONEY FOR YOU

I see it more like a second income if you like.

most of these laundromats provide other services as well. Charging to wash your clothes per pound being a huge money maker I'm sure!

it just depends on the industry, there are so may businesses that aren't making money anymore... 2016 was predicted to be the worst year in terms of the economy anyway.
