1. Ban assault weapons.
2. Good people with good intentions can't access assault weapons.
3. Bad guys with bad intentions use the black market to purchase said assault weapons.
4. Bad guys effectively become more armed than the good guys via legislation.
5. Problem either stays the same or gets worse; but definitely not better.

1.there is one thing in common with the 90+% of all mass shootings in the USA and that's assault style weapons.
2.We can start there.
3.it's a circular argument to say we can't outlaw assault style weapons because assault style weapons will always be available.
4.people will always drive over the speed limit too.
5.we don't get rid of speed limits on account of them.

exactly. that's a big part of what this solution would/could address, mass shootings and corresponding gay mafia drama. get rid of that and we can then take a better look at the bigger, more widespread and common problems with gun violence.

3. Based on economics, where there's a demand, there will be a supply. Once you understand this basic fact, the only question is whether or not you want criminals feeding the supply, or legit business owners. (Personally, I like the black market, because fuck business licenses and taxation).
4-5. Not an accurate comparison -- Getting rid of speed limits is likely to increase accidents, but getting rid of gun control is likely to curtail violent gun related incidents. We see this in neighborhoods with high gun ownership.

Ya I mean look how well that has worked for drugs......

I mean it HAD to be the gun, Islam is such a peace loving religion ya know

Besides you dont need to ever protect yourself, after all call 911 and while waiting for them to get there tell the bad guy what a peace loving, understanding human being you are.

Put a big sign in your front yard stating that you have no guns in the house, I am sure that will deter any bad guys to move to the house next door that says this house protected by Smith and Wesson.

another great reason for BO to ban assault style weapons right here right now. it will prove whether or not assault style weapons are the problem.

BO should also execute an executive order to close the loophole on purchasing guns at gun shows effective ASAP. i'm thinking that may need its own thread.

Water *can* be used to kill people (waterboarding, excessive water consumption)..

Guns *can* be used to kill people (instances where it's not, they can be used for target practice, sustenance, and kill those initiating force against us, etc..)

So this ban would be one thing that law-breaking, law-ignoring criminals DO obey? How so?

Seems the only demographic this ban would realistically apply to, are the people who already obey the laws anyway. Which kinda makes it beside the point.

Stop it, you're making too much sense and that hurts liberals heads. Cognitive dissonance is a bitch.

Anyhow, ban everything (which really are just scribbles on pieces of paper)..

It won't matter. Eventually everyone will be able to 3d print their own weapons. And in the mean time, would-be mass-killers will just find other ways if they can't attain weapons through the black market (which they'd have to be RETARDED not to).. Such as bombs.

Mass shooters obey the law right up until they, you know, go mass shooting.

Logic of banning guns is like if this nut job drove his car into the building killing the same and injuring the same. Do you ban all cars or just the type of car they drove?

Yes I have AR and I hunt animals I eat with it. Took a dear last year with mine and will do the same again this year. Am I bi est on this topic, Yes. Would I walk into a room and kill several people, Hell no because i am not nuts

I am not saying there is not a prob going on with people getting weapons they should not have but we need to look at more than just guns and try to find out how and why this keeps happening.

Bad people are going to do bad things period. Bombs are illegal yet bad people still can get them or make them.

A less drastic step would be to limit magazine size for assault style weapons. In Canada there is a limit of 5 rounds. Makes it harder to pull off mass executions like this. Would take a long time to get all the large magazines off the streets but it would probably be a step in the right direction.

There's one thing in common with 100% of guns, and that's shooting them.

There's one thing in common with 100% of all assault weapons, semi-automatic, large magazines and that's they shoot more times making hitting more things easier.

And in a country with this level of violance so loved by so many.

There's an easy way to deter these type of mass shootings. More security.

If you insist on allowing this level of free access to tools for killing, it's common sense to have better security.

Public areas are very vulnerable. So airport-type scanners on all entrances with armed security to deter shooters. It's like a burglar alarm on your house or brakes on your car. Never 100% just better than nothing, which is the present system. The latest could have been prevented with better security. Add that to all public places and all he can do is shoot fewer people on the street.

And who will pay for the costs? Gun buyers who insist on keeping their guns and the gun making/selling industry.

Or do nothing and hope it's not someone you know next time. Because at the moment, it's not if it happens again, it's how many more times will it happen this month?

Why do you think they call them "ASSAULT" weapons? d'Oh?

You don't buy one when deer season opens.
You buy one when 'human season' opens ...
Or, as a defense weapon against people -- the other legitimate use.
It seems 10% of the population of Afghanistan carry Kalashnikovs -- how is that working out?

There's the Republican argument again, equating things that get us from point A to B, like cars -- and things that are made to kill people quickly, like assault rifles. They're not the same thing. You can't drive your AR 15 to work, so it's not an essential part of your life and is not the same thing as a car just because cars kill people also.

But you can't walk into a nightclub with a squirtgun and kill 50 people. Maybe someone will die laughing.

Everyone on the gun side of this argument is very bad at making analogies and points.

And by the way, I don't hate guns at all. I actually love them and in the past have built my own Ar 15 through mail order. But as a sane, responsible person I just think it needs to be tougher for obvious nutcases like this shooter to get his hands on a military grade killing instrument.

It seems 10% of the population of Afghanistan carry Kalashnikovs -- how is that working out?
people run people over with cars not by accident. you wanna ban cars? nope!

Let me suggest something --as an owner of firearms: Just require a permit to own an assault weapon just like what is done now with handguns.

It will not stop illegal ownership and criminal use of handguns and assault rifles but it will prevent nut-cases from buying an assault weapon and the next day going postal is a crowded venue like that gay bar this weekend in Orlando.

And don't start a war you cannot finish This is exclusive of domestic terrorism (I guess?) ...

You don't get it at all. My point was there can be sensible legislation, just like elsewhere.

Where on the planet is there a Republican starting threads about banning firearms?

Heads up: there isn't.

Use your head, read the title, try and figure something out that's over your head for once. That's how people get smarter.

I did read the title....and I don't believe for one second you're on that side of the argument. I took it as deadpan sarcasm, which is what it is.

This is you trying to be enigmatic and failing.

claims the reject that doesn't even know what a quote is for and uses that ignorance to try and accuse me of plagiarism elsewhere.

you're delusional paranoid reject that probably has a substance abuse issue on top of being uneducated and a simpleton.

so let's add up all the shit about me you run around here exclaiming i'm disingenuous about:

1. bernie sanders support

2. trying to claim credit for a quote i quoted.

3. not being a republican

4. wanting sensible gun legislation

what a reject. think what you want, you're a paranoid freak.

The word is biased

The GOP-controlled Senate refusal to pass new gun control measures came weeks after the Washington Post reported that suspected terrorists had successfully purchased more than 2,000 guns from American dealers between 2004 and 2014, even though law enforcement is notified whenever someone on the FBI?s watchlist attempts to purchase a firearm.

Also on Thursday, the Senate failed to pass another bill that would have expanded background checks to gun show and online firearms sales. The measure would also prevents convicted felons and the mentally ill from having access to weapons.

I really would like to know why we can't buy nuclear weapons at Walmart.

The 2nd Amendment says we have a right to bear arms, nuclear weapons are considered arms, so wtf?

Nuclear weapons are inanimate objects, they can't go off by themselves.

Criminals don't obey laws, so obviously thousands of criminals are walking around with nukes.

There are thousands of responsible nuclear weapon owners throughout the world that have not used their nukes to harm a single person.

So c'mon NRA, get with it already!

It's quite simple:

In Europe where they have strict gun laws there are little or no mass shootings by lone nut jobs. (Paris was a planned terrorist attack).

Here we have mass shootings on a weekly or at least monthly basis, it's accepted as the norm.

Doing nothing will continue the regular bloodshed.
