A better starting point might be what are your requirements for the server? The first server is a newer CPU, but it isn't going to do you any good if you really need 4 x 2 TB's for data storage.

I'm not a big fan of Supermicro's. They are loud and pretty unstable. Go for a Dell or a HP instead...

Look at this compare on Intels website
ARK | Compare Intel® Products It depends what you need it for. The older 5620 can run a dual-cpy setup and handle much more RAM, but if you just need a web/app server and no databasem the newer Supermicro server is fine. It uses a lot less power and produce less heat. The life expektancy is really long on them as well, sond dont worry about it being released in 2012 I got 18 HP BL460c with Intel 5620 and similar CPU's running, and the TCO is so low, there is no point in replacing them atm, since they run a hypervisor-platform. I replaced the old SAN with a Nimble Storage box (all flash for thin provisioning) and a low-tier Nimble Storage for backups and content. Saved me more than getting new faster servers, that the customers dont need anyways. ![]() |

Lease server and it will be used for high traffic tube site with high CPU usage. Video will be served from CDN.

i would ask first what exactly ssd's are those.
everyone usually using cheap home ssd with write endurance xx-xxxTb you may check SMART info and see how many Tb has been written already. if the server was in use for years before you got it, there's a great chance that the ssd will die very soon. enterprise grade ssd's endurace counts in Pb (Petabytes). plus always better to have higher Ghz cpu. but after all, the biggest problem is usually your scripts. you may use cheap celeron cpu for serving 100k+ of static files and in the same time you may get down with the latest xeon e5 with lots of cores when you use dumb scripts. |

It all depends on what you're going to use it...
If SSDs are enterprise grade and new it's decent server... But if you're planing to use it for very busy applications or tube sites that you might look in more high-end hardware offer... Again, it's not bad setup and will do the job for average sites very well.
