Once I had a flight from Gatwick (UK) at 5 am, came in at 11 pm. After an hour or so chilling near arrivals area security came to me, asked for docs etc. Maybe ebcause I was hanging near arrival gates after all of the flights were done

Of course Gatwick is much smaller than Beijing.

Most large western airports have facial recognition built into their CCTV.

Anyone detected at those airports for a sustained period of time gets security checked.
