At Least 3 Dead, Up to 100 Hurt in Major Hoboken Train Crash | NBC New York

At least three people died and up to 100 were hurt, some of them critically, when an NJ Transit train crashed into the station in Hoboken at the height of Thursday's morning rush, leaving twisted piles of metal and bricks and causing part of the highly trafficked terminal to collapse, officials said.
Preliminary reports suggest the crash involving train No. 1614 on the Pascack Valley Line was accidental or caused by operator error, according to four law enforcement officials, though they stress it is early in the investigation.

Pictures on social media showed serious damage to the train and extensive structural damage to the station. At least one of the NJ Transit cars appeared to be partially inside the building, with some of the supporting beams that hold up the canopy where the trains come in caved in around it.
It appeared the train went through a bumper stop at the end of the track. It came to a stop in a covered area between the station's indoor waiting area and the platform. From above, chopper footage showed the glass arches atop the building crunched like an accordion over the platform.

It looks bad.

Vikingman is right - we obsess over unimportant things while we are failing to keep our infrastructure up to date. We should be investing time, effort, and money into roads, bridges, internet, power, and water.

My town here (population of 50K) has water pipes that are over 100 years old, and some of them are starting to fail. We really have no excuse; We have a huge plant in here in town that makes the damn pipes (Gladding McBean).

I love how congress will run the govt to the edge of shut down over trivial shit but will give away billions of tax dollars to govt contractors for a few thousand dollars in campaign donations..

I think most of them will stay regardless of who gets elected. Plus I already posted a few weeks ago that if Hispanics were ever deported en mass that I would be like Oscar Schindler and save as many as possible. Anyone who has committed crimes needs to be deported and a strong border with snipers stationed every few miles can support the agents and drones on the front lines. No wall is needed. Support can be sent for families/women/children but trucks that are sneaking in illegal materials or who will not stop after repeated attempts can be taken out by a sniper. Some collateral damage? Fuck you don't cross our border.

As for the ones who are here I guess we have to let them stay. If we wanted to prevent them from becoming citizens we should have stopped them at the border. All of us who have lived in high Latino or immigrant areas like California, Texas, or Florida, NY, etc knows these families and for the most part they are great people. We would have to be complete sociopaths to uproot all of these families and ship them back after USA citizens having benefited (in the short term) from the immigrants doing so many menial jobs like cleaning, landscaping, and farming, construction, etc.
