Two reasons - he was hit by a death blinding curse as a baby and it would either be too dangerous to try to reverse...or potentially cannot be reversed

Second is the author wore glasses and she once said in an interview she just wanted the hero to have glasses LOL

Exact same thing could be said about the starwars franchise. The 1977 movie was written with kids in mind and just happened to also interest adults as well

It was all explained, someone must have torn a page out of your book

The spell to correct his eyesight was written in ink that was invisible to anyone looking at it through glasses, and his eyes on their own weren't good enough to read it either.

Tried to get into it as a kid, but couldn't get past the first sentence. IDK it just didn't pull me in. Seems fun though, and I know lots of ppl who are lifelong fans. I feel like the internet has made a bigger deal of Harry Potter if anything
