I've been out of the membership site game for over a decade. We have video content only and want to offer a membership site. What scripts/methods are there now?

Membership sites continue to do well BUT it's not the way it was ten years ago (or so I hear; I've only been doing this shit for 7 years lol).

But when it comes to videos go all mp4 and HTML5. Flash is dead.

Best of luck! Also, I would lower revenue expectations and make sure your ROI goals are reasonable.

Well it depends on what you want to do. Create galleries? Rotate images? CMS? Video editing? Watermarking? FTP? LOL

There are about 22 jobs involved with running a paysite.

[3] Open for business.

[5] Within 2-3 weeks wake up to find your entire member's area freely distributed on site-rip org and a thousand other pirate/torrent sites.

So much depends on your plans moving forward really. Will you just do one site and keep it simple or will you be managing scads of content over many sites a couple years from now?

CMS software can make it a lot easier to expand and manage updates. Obvioulsy, Elevated X is a big one and it's kinda like Photoshop where it's so feature rich that you couldn't possibly use everything it has, but it gives all the room in the world to grow.

NATS is great for managing the affiliate game. Unparalleled, really.

Do you need a network of free sites to pump traffic in? Then you're looking for tube scripts and whatnot.

In short - there is no "in short." It's a big conversation.

But here's a Pro Tip: You can sell ANYTHING. ANY porn, ANY content - yes Paul Markham, even if it's shit. (I could've sold Paul Markham's content too had I given a damn enough).

Old porn? Sell it as vintage. Niche porn? Do your research and sell to those customers. Same porn everyone else has? Tell a better, more interesting 'story' to frame your content and it will sell.

But when I said 'lower your expectations' I meant it. Vintage/niche etc WILL sell. But will it sell in the numbers you need to make it worth your time?

Yes it's true you can sell anything these days. 10,000s could have sold my content if I had given it to them for free.

In business, it's all about ROI and that's why everyone says "You can sell ANYTHING". But doesn't once told the price for buying it. Can you afford to burn money for a design and CMS?

What I saw wasn't Classic. it's 2000s and I suspect Russian, which doesn't match the 2257 info. Can you produce the documents?

Make adjustments, resize your expectations, work within the new limitations and realities OR do what Paul has done: quit and wax poetic about when porn was worth $10,000+ a scene in profit.

I think the same, do a front end and separate membership area. Sign up for a third party billing service like Verotel to take payments and send the user to the members area.

Webmasters think the value of content is what it's worth to them. $300 for a solo girl set and video. Or $4,000 + still owning it.

Or $2,000 for a boy/girl set and video. Or $20,000 + still owning it.

The problem was most online thought porn started and ended there, even though is was obviously not true. They never really looked to ways of making a scene they bought in for $300 worth $3,000 with a few phone calls.

So we came to the decision, why shoot exclusive for someone who think our content is worth $300 a scene, when we have a group of people who KNOW it's worth $1,000 to $2,000, for a non exclusive license. And run the risk of site owners making a phone call.

The plus points are, no server or CMS needed, you can be up and going in a few weeks or less, not sure about design which you should do anyway.

Kick it off there, feel the water and then think of something bigger. I would definitely put a site there if I was going to drive traffic.

This is EXACTLY why I got out of the standard membership sites years ago.

It started with exponentially expanding free affiliate content. So much free 'promo' content that people started asking why even buy porn. I remember back in 2006 I became an affiliate along with being the webmaster of my own sites. I joined as an affiliate for several sites and in no time I had so much free content thrown at me that I didn't even have time to organize it.

Then password sharing sites, then newsreaders and torrents, then the final nail in the coffin - tube sites..

So IMO membership sites selling access to pics and videos is very hard to profit from, and if you have good content people will just pirate it via torrent or newsreaders.

Interactive sites, live streaming content, and selling adult related services (like adverts, design, scripts, selling niche traffic, etc.) seems to be the only thing that works now. Of course I'm sure there are some legacy sites out there that still turn a profit, but it's a pain in the ass filing DMCAs and tracking down all the assholes stealing your content.

I use to shoot a scene and sell it on DVD and make thousands with it, then cut it up and encode it 5 different ways to make over 150 clips out of it and make another 500.
Then put it on the pay site as an update.
At the end selling the scene for 5 times more than what it cost me to make it.
I can't do any of that anymore. Hell back then I charged the customer 500 for the custom video so I made 500 to film the video and gave half to the girl so the cost of making the video was nothing. It made money.
You can't even compare it to back in the day.

Not so for us. This was how we worked up til 2007. Think on it like this.

We were being asked to shoot exclusive for the return of 5 store sales. It's impossible to saturate a scene with only 5 sales.

Then there were the set sales via the stores, 10 x $35 =$350. These sales figures are ridiculously low. When all those sales were done, on the main site. The content went into bargain basement at $5 and could sell 50 to 100 times. Lesbians and Boy/girl did better.

Then magazine sales. $1,000 to the UK and $1,00 to $2,400 to the US. Then EU sales. 17 were paying $250 for a non-exclusive set so long as we shot the girls in their T-Shirts at the end of the shoot. Second rights were a small market for us, like Japan and Australia. And in the end, there was Photorama, still get the occasional check.

The BG videos were good, we swapped them with other producers for 1 of ours to 5 of theirs.

And today I'm still getting money from sales.

We paid the girl $500 for the day and shot, at least, two scenes. Worth $3,000+ each scene.

You were shooting DVD, I moved to magazine sets the moment I arrived here. I don't think we had a video camera for the first few years. I sold my Beta Cam in the UK. So we're comparing apples and oranges.

Especially when people tell me content producers had an over inflated opinion of their content.

Look on it as two sites, site A converts 1-100, site B converts 1-1,000. With exactly the same traffic. And the owner of Site B is telling you, your opinion of what you're worth is inflated.

As SomeCreep says Tubes dominate the market and getting sales from them is tough. To spend the time and money putting a brand new site together from the very start is risky. Try Adult Centro and see how it goes, if it works then think of breaking away.
