The idea is of a digital reserve currency and some transactional stability. Bancor may not fly but the idea is good. Make digital funny money a medium of trade that is stable within expected currency limits is the, or should be, the long term goal.

Scrip is a debt certificate that is tradable for real world goods. Those who use the term shitcoin recognise that the majority of coins have zero innovation and zero utility, and are just created to try to make the 'developers' rich. There's only a few that have done something different/first (eg Litecoin with quicker block times), or new (Peercoin, Proof of Stake). These days for a minor fee a coin creation service can automatically push out a new shitcoin in a few minutes.

Most of the coins I mine cannot be used to buy goods or services, or really do anything useful, besides price speculation via an exchange.
