Ozark

I have even signed for a trial on Netflix because I heard Ozark was good. Well, it's definitely professionally made. I gave it a go and now am on the Episode 10. With all due respect, it makes it clear you do miserable if you lead simple life, and you get majorly fucked if you step out to reach for what is not really yours. It generally says the world around us is fucked. To the bone. Even Shameless had the ups but Ozark just levels the negative with basic reality.

I am still on Episode three and it's not rocking my world. I need a little bit of sex in it to get keep me interested. I'm still waiting to see Marty bang Ruth, or at least the chick who owns the resort.

It's gonna keep it cold as dead body, no sex, no nothing. Only fear to survive.

That's not the only good show on Netflix. There's a ton of em. Definitely worth the 10 bucks a month.

between Netflix and Amazon Prime I can usually find 1 or 2 hours of entertainment per sitting. I guess that's worth the $20/mo

It is pretty much the Breaking Bad formula of an ordinary average decent guy who makes a forced choice of entering the world of crime (even has money laundering which was a key element of Breaking Bad) and becomes a cold calculating criminal losing his moral compass along the way...

Enjoyed season 1 so hopefully season 2 will continue to develop into an interesting story.

To me, its that but not anywhere as near well conceived or well written. Marty, starts as a victim, but it becomes clear fairly quickly that he is the bad guy as well... .with his flexible moral compass and extensive experience in laundering drug money. For me, its hard to sympathize with the character as in my mind, his predicament is the result of his own choices. Walt, had cancer. Just a science nerd who loved to teach high school chemistry who was suddenly forced to confront his own mortality and the havoc it would wreak on his family. He SLOWLY edged towards being the bad guy. But you never had a sense of him being a bad guy until well into the series. In this show, they clarify in later episodes that he and his wife both made a conscious decision to be "the bad guys". That kinda blows any sympathy i might have for the characters. You kinda want to feel for the kids, but they also aren't exactly precious little angels... so even that is made hard.

I also didn't like the whole him moving to launder 8,000,000.00 and they never really explained how it did it. you can't just run around buying stuff. you can't buy 24 AC units and take delivery on 4. You can do that only when you have an agreement with that AC company or own it to launder money. Further, it takes a huge amount of time to set up networks to make this happen. Construction is a perfect way to launder money but you can't just drive out into the middle of nowhere and make it happen on day 2. You need a huge number of complicit entities. They never really reconciled that which bothered me a little as well.

In addition to that, the whole "Money laundering" angle is blown instantly, when the whole town knows you're there and that's what you are doing... and he doesn't even try to hide it. Money leaves a trail. Always. The first big issue is flying below the radar to make sure no one even starts to look closely at whats happening. he makes no effort to be discreet. All he needed was some solid construction projects, flip vacation homes etc... and no one would have known he existed.

Overall it is a decent show. I don't I will find myself counting down the days until the next season like other series though.
