Someone educate me... RE: Incognito mode + sponsor cookies
I know someone's researched this.
Generally speaking, are cookies delivered and signups credited when the surfer is using incognito mode? |

If cookies are used they are for that session only. Close that incognito/privacy browser window there is no history nor cookies remaining -- session only.
So if someone buys during the session there are referral cookies present and you would get paid. |

Most people who buy through a referral link don't even know what is incognito mode.

just a side note, it is possible to set cookies and local storage even when they user is in private mode, and I doubt that affiliate platforms will put effort setting this up.
I had once a working example of 3-4 methods to achieve that http://www.pcworld.com/article/28652...cher-says.html |

Cookies and LocalStorage are preserved during the lifetime of that window and work fine. When opening a new window it starts out clean with nothing saved. When they close the window anything stored is discarded. Within the lifetime of the window being open though, the browser works as normal.
So basically if they open an incognito window, click and affiliate link, then sign up, you will be credited. |

Work-around is to have the referred customer sign-up for a free account (induce him with some value added benefit). Database the sign-up with the affiliates referral ID.
Then if, and only if, he logs in to make a buy the referrer would get paid. The other thing would be to ban tor, (real IPs), and then database a browser fingerprint -- but that fingerprint is hypothetically only 65% to 85% accurate maybe. You would have to purge the old fingerprints after 15 days if unseen to conserve database resources. Bottom line: cookies are only 70% affective globally maybe and cookie slippage is a big moneymaker for sponsors so they have little motivation do try to remedy the issue. |
