Brian Cox suggests we´re on the verge of turning our planet solely residential
He goes on to say we´ve already landed on asteroids in the asteroid belt, now to mine these we can find sustained energy source to give our planet what it needs.

![]() While I think this is great technology and I´m certainly all for it, keeping our planet green, a brilliant idea to put into the making. However, I´m wondering, why countries do not just stop fighting, bring our countries together & slap a huge solar panel industry in the north of Africa. There would be enough power to supply the world anyway. I suppose this would put Africa on the top of the commodities chain & of course America, Russia, China & even little ole UK wouldn´t want that ![]()

We will have run out of resources to feed the billions long before we develop that technology.

You're looking at this the wrong way. Asteroids are potentially huge sources of raw minerals like platinum, gold & silver, and materials like iron titanium, aluminum and alot more. Some of those materials could be brought back to earth but others could be used to build new things in orbit, saving launch costs. Of course their are technology hurdles to overcome but it's not the lack of resources on earth that will jump-start asteroid mining, it's money. The companies that can get this started first will be the ones who control the market.

my 4th year of mathematics we have a conversation with a phd...so called genius.
I told him i wanted to spend my time in a MAsters exploring the possibility of peppering asteroids with spider like drones who will anchor into the asteroids then use a hive like control system to steer the asteroids into a position so we can deal with it. He told me i should start writing sci fi. now i know he was just a pompous asshole |
