Anyone trade their laptop for a tablet?
I have a laptop I use occasionally if am traveling and need to work or over the GF's and working etc. It's always worked fine, but its starting to get a little old and I'm thinking about getting a new one. I have thought about just getting a tablet and a Bluetooth keyboard for it. MS Office has mobile apps I can use for work stuff.
Has anyone done this? If so, how was it if you had to work for a while? My worry is that the screen will be too small if I end up working for several hours. Also, if you did do this, what type of tablet did you go with? |

I like to use a tablet to quickly check statistics, emails, news, etc. But computers are irreplaceable for developers, Android is too restrictive for coding and editing photos and videos.

why you don't get a Chromebook? for example a acer 14 or asus - is a cheap, 10-12h battery and you work much faster than tablet.

That's an idea. Right now I have a 17 inch laptop and it is kind of big to take with me. I want to downsize so maybe a small chromebook would work for me.

I don't think a tablet replaces a laptop, its just a tool to use with it, I take both on holiday, laptop for the room and tablet to carry around.
I look for the newest out of china, running windows 10 and always use with wireless mouse |

Bought at least 10 over the years thinking that but always end up giving it away because I don't ever use them. My 2.5yo is using the latest after destroying 3 of the cheap kid versions.

I have a full PC for work, and a Laptop for downstairs, but for traveling.... I use a Microsoft Surface. It's a tablet that is a full PC. I use the Surface at home as a tablet, but also have it hooked up to a monitor at it's own work station. It's great for traveling - small, take it on the airplane, etc.....
This is my Surface in my master bedroom - that's the Surface on the right, and a monitor hooked up on the left. ![]()

Yes -- a 10" and and 8" much less weight and bulk. Good excuse not to do any serious work when I travel

The Chromebook is fast, super lightweight, small (but not too small), cool, and drop-dead silent (no fans). Touchscreen if I need it. Backlit keyboard. Amazing battery life. Folds into a tablet format if I want it (which I never do). And Chromecast is the greatest invention ever for watching porn, Youtube, etc. Best of all... no Windoze. I use it constantly and love it more than anything I've ever used -- other than my self-built desktop machine. This is the one I bought. Amazon.com: ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 with Intel Core m3, 12.5-Inch Touchscreen, 64GB storage and 4GB RAM: Computers & Accessories I narrowed it down to that one and the top-of-the-line Samsung. The Asus won (for me) because I wanted the backlit keyboard. |

I love my macbook air, there are lots of windows laptops the same size / weight these days. I find my tablet isn't very useful for work.

I skip between both. But nothing beats laptop on things like spreadsheets.

I use a tablet 90% of the time for internet browsi g but my laptop is still needed. I did use a surface pro 3 for a while, it was very close but too big to be a tablet and too small to be a laptop. The touch screen wjth a stylus was awesome though.

I have the cheapest Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which doesn?t have any cooling fans and uses an SSD disc. Quick, dead silent, with the magnetic click-on keyboard which also doubles as screen protector. On my desk, I hook it up with one cable to a docking station with dual monitors and bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
It really is the best solution for me. I can fold it up, remove one cable and be out the door in one minute. It is a full Windows computer, with all programs and functionality and my desktop looks exactly the same, with all programs installed, whether I am home or on the road. Can clearly recommend it!

At this point size doesn't matter. You can hook up anything to a monitor, bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and it's all the same.

I have both a tablet and a Macbook Air, and I prefer the Macbook. Speed aside, using it for work is just faster. I get 10 hours of battery life and its almost the same size as a large tablet anyway.

I agree that for dev purposes there's no question you'd need something with a real keyboard, and probably a decent screen too! |

depends on what you want, its a Chinese clone and comes with clone issues
Some of the advantages are, 6gb ram, 256gb harddrive, 3 full sized usb3 ports, and its those fullsized usb port's that's always made me buy Chuwi tablets, plug any keyboard and mouse in, swap info between devise etc |
