the past month i had 500,000 views. You know how much i got paid, with the 'too offensive' filters of Youtube firmly in place for my channel? 50 bucks.

TV shows get less views. Creators on youtube work their asses off, and they don't get paid jack shit. Every single time there is a new hoop put into place we have to jump through. Fuck them

I was always in this 'limbo zone' for content they didn't really like but before these strict filters were put into place, for 500,000 views i made at least $250. Channels who are plastic, humorless and opinionless, make at least $1 per 1000 views (so in this case they would make $500).

Also before these filters were put into place my content was much more prevalent on youtube and got millions of views a month. Once the filters were put into place, your videos are shown a lot less in search, related videos, etc. They really try to demotivate channels that do not fit their agenda by cutting the money and exposure off. If there is no $$ to be made then many small timers will stop posting. And since this content wasn't getting views anyway, it was most likely garbage just polluting search results, so by eliminating this garbage = better user experience.

Yea, many post good content for free, but there is also ton of garbage. For example those text-to-speech slideshows or some pointless rants. Youtube maybe dont have popups but it have in video ads which are far more annoying as you cant close them immediately as you can close popup

Their earnings algorithm looks at everything, besides content they look at who's watching including age. Then they adapt the ads to the combination of all these factors. Kids and teens make a lot more money than the average age of 30 yrs old of my viewers. Add to that the content they rather get rid of, and you get your shitty average.

But the most loss i had was because they simply demonitize most of my videos so those videos don't make money at all despite millions of views. So now i only get paid for the few videos that are monetized, who have those shitty rates as well.

People don't jump to 1000 subscribers overnight. There are many people that post great content that gets a fair amount of views but not everyone is going to subscribe right away.

They are just making people provide content for free for a greater period of time.

And there will always be people on there posting videos of their dog or a kid showing his pokemon collection. Those idiots won't go away since they never intended to make money anyway.

I have a small channel with 36 subs. Every single one has an Arabic name. My 36 Arabic subs are of no comparison to 36 New York City based subs.

Correct, sir. They've recently also added an 'in between' label, just to calm creators down which says "Not suitable for most advertisers". This means it does get ads but only from companies advertising on Youtube who checked the option "Show my ads on controversial / offensive videos". You can imagine almost no companies check that option, so in reality the video is still not making any money.

Instead of using YouTube as the moneymaker, is it possible to use it as a free traffic source that you funnel into a target site of yours that allows you to control your users and monetization methods?

Example: maybe your YouTube channel is about gardening (highly controversial!) You use your gardening videos to push users to your primary website. From your primary website you give away additional quality free content so people keep coming to your website once they 1st land. You also create a mailing list in which you give away something special to all mailing list subscribers. Now you have your own website that you can monetize directly from, and more importantly, a mailing list (massive value) to monetize from even further.

What is $250 in lost YouTube advertising money anyway when you can sell direct niche products and services from your website and mailing list?

From my little channel, I see people come to my target website and click around, purchase, etc. Instead of looking at YouTube as the moneymaker, look at it as a traffic source.

But $1 per thousand views? No wonder so many people sit there making video after video all day long.

I agree with Sly: try using YT as a traffic source, a funnel, and not the $ maker. At only $50 a month now you don't have much to lose trying that strategy.
