Escort Site Operators: Any thoughts on FOSTA/SESTA? - GoFuckYourself.com

There doesn't seem to be much talk about FOSTA/SESTA here on GFY. In fact, I see it's awfully quiet regarding this new law which Trump is expected to sign this week apart from some talk about Craigslist and Backpage. It's basically a declaration of war by the US Government on operators of escort sites in particular.

(Sec. 3) The bill amends the federal criminal code to add a new section that imposes penalties—a fine, a prison term of up to 10 years, or both—on a person who, using a facility or means of interstate or foreign commerce, owns, manages, or operates an interactive computer service (or attempts or conspires to do so) to promote or facilitate the prostitution of another person.

Additionally, it establishes enhanced penalties—a fine, a prison term of up to 25 years, or both—for a person who commits the offense in one of the following aggravating circumstances: (1) promotes or facilitates the prostitution of five or more persons, or (2) acts with reckless disregard that such conduct contributes to sex trafficking.

Many escort sites, both US based as well as abroad sites, have already shut down or taken other drastic measures like no longer accepting US escort ads or blocking US visitors. It's expected others will follow once it's signed. These penalties are no joke.

Any thoughts? Will you be closing down soon or continue to operate? Especially when running an escort site is completely legal in your country.

I can imagine US sponsors might sooner or later stop accepting escort traffic. Perhaps Google will start blocking escort sites in the future to show up in the SERPs to US citizens.

I can't see this ending well for anyone involved in the escort industry.

Adultwork i think they are in UK, so i think they will just removed anything USA related to their site.

I think this Abroad law is for the one thinking they will host their site Offshore and keep serving USA user, Thats where this law coming in Forced IMO.

Adultwork altered US providers' their profiles it seems by removing the 'escort' portion of it. They now only show the cam, sms, phone chat portion of their profiles. Just search for any random girl from USA and you;ll their profiles no longer have an escort tick box.

I have was there in the Era of the news paper and Flyers to market escort.

The internet has arrive , Business have move to the website and online advertising.

Craigslist has rise till he shut down his adult section.

Backpage took over till 2018

It was a really nice 20 years around this industry

I have a bit of escort targeted domain on the US market, or domains where us regions are listed. There are no ads on them, everything is done for traffic dating related sites.

I disagree there, an Eros call center in US got raided past year. I'm sure they'll be one of the first on the target list. If they got rid of their US listings in response to this law, they'll lose like 80-90% of their revenue.

The company behind Eros is based in Switzerland though, but not sure how much that would help if the US government has a hard-on for you.

Yes but they are still taking advertising money as of today and no Stamp of FBI on their website. LOL
All i mean is Eros.com is harder to place an ad compare to backpage or the like Classifieds type. Its a total different process.

Similar story here. No ads, and no profit from escorts/agencies. This law seems to be a farce. Can no longer even exercise my freedom of speech without being worried.

Offshore hosting isn’t a safety measure. In the past, they’d look at the main host who then sold/rented space on their system for other hosts and they did the same. You could be hosted by AAAAA Hosting in Sweden but they could get their bandwidth from B Hosting in the United Kingdom hooked to Kookoo Hosting in the USA.

Depends how they plan to decimate the escort business. If hosts remove you, you’ll find another host solely with non-USA connections. Good time for foreign hosts not buying bandwidth from the USA to jump in and clean up good. Great time for hosts to look for other sources outside the USA for their escort sites bandwidth. Offer hosting in another country for iffy sites. Partner up and make bank! Hosts need to think outside the box to keep their clients. Offering offshore hosting can’t hurt ...

Escorts usually call themselves companionship services to be safe , so you officially pay the girl for her companion , while it is obvious they are prostitutes.

So.. as long as they call themselves escorts / companions without publicly mentioning it includes sex they could keep going

I’m curious — if a site only allows ads from people in areas where prostitution is legal, will they be allowed to stay in business? They are promoting a legal service..... I’d consider doing a site based on locale if I were able!
