:stop 10-year-old boy found dead inside dryer after game of hide-and-seek

A 10-year-old Texas boy who was found dead inside a communal dryer after a game of hide-and-seek was electrocuted, according to the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

The child, identified by his mother as Fernando Hernandez Jr., was playing hide-and-seek and having "Nerf gun wars" with a group of other children in his East Houston apartment complex when the incident took place on Friday night.

"I don't know what happened," the boy's mother, Christina Rodriguez, told KTRK through tears. "I was just inside cooking and my little son came inside and told me my son was dead on the floor."
"My boyfriend picked him up and brought him into the house. He was purple and his eyes were open and he was gone."

KTRK reports that first responders attempted to perform CPR on the third grader before rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Sad. My mom taught me at six not to go in the washer, dryer, refrigerator or freezer. Why? We had a full-sized upright freezer in the playroom. She was doing laundry and came into the room, saw me climbing into the freezer, and lectured me.

I’m curious how he was electrocuted in a dryer. Not the gruesome details but in general. No loose wires inside, wet clothes go in there so it has safety features and unless he pulled the plug while wet ... Its really sad as the parents will blame themselves..

But — how did he get on the floor if he’d been in the dryer? He died in the dryer but was found on the floor by her younger son. I was picturing a home dryer and cord behind the unit. But commercial dryers generally put the outlets out of reach/sight.

Nerf guns are sponges but don’t hold water, right?

It was a community dryer, so someone probably took him out so they could dry their clothes.
