Maines unbelievably stupid alcohol laws !!!!!!!!!
I find this extremely hard to believe but yesterday i wanted to buy some mustard. Its made with red port wine and has an alcohol content of less than 4.5%. Its expensive shit but i like the taste and use it on cuban sandwiches which i love. Anyway i placed the order and within a few minutes got an e-mail to say the order was cancelled. See below
Some of our mustards are made using white wine, rather than vinegar, and so contain a small amount of alcohol. The total alcohol content of these mustards is between 0.5% and 4.5%. Some States have regulations that prevent us from selling these items to customers located in those States. Since your order contains one or more of these products and your chosen shipping state was Maine, your order has had to be cancelled. Limited Edition, Mustard with Aged Balsamic Vinegar of Modena and Red Port Wine × 1 4.4 oz $39.00. Fucking stupid law and all so they (Maine ) can get their few penny's of tax ? I got around it by having it sent to friends in California, which does not seem to have a similar law. And they are forwarding it on to me in a plain brown box. The strange thing is i regularly get cases (12 bottles) of wine delivered from California, Vegas, Texas and even France and Italy without any issues, delays or duty ? ![]() ![]() |

I bought a house up there for retirement
![]() "NOTE This product does not ship to the following states: AZ, DE, ME, OR, TN, VA, WA as it contains more than 0.5% alcohol by volume. Customers in NH will be asked to verify their age through Careline Email." Antiquated laws. Your booze must be in unmarked boxes. You should find someone in Massachusetts or New Hampshire to receive it, then drive down. It depends on how far up you are. Lewiston? Bangor? Dover-Foxcroft? Then again, shipping from California via UPS is insured and under $15. If liquor stores can legally receive alcohol, maybe you can befriend a store owner. Give him ten bucks or start buying from him. Their site states delivery to the lower 48 blah blah blah. Webmaster never read their terms and cut and pasted. Point that out and ask for a discount. I've done that before and usually it works. I did that for a professional here. Found tons of typos and pointed them out. His thank you was enough in return. All they can do is say thanks but no or thanks 50% off ;) That mustard store is smart. No distribution to other stores so all profits are theirs. They'd lose 25-50% to stores selling it. But only a few handfuls of others would carry it. Catalogs, Beverly Hills stores, the Hamptons, a couple of wealthy area stores could sell it but the average Joe won't spend $40 for 4 oz of mustard. The 17 oz bottle is a deal!
