Trump’s Trade War Is Wreaking Havoc on the Dairy Industry, massive losses...

"As the Wall Street Journal reports Thursday, Mexico and China have decided to target up to $986 million worth of American dairy exports with tariffs as retaliation for the Trump administration’s protectionist moves. Mexico is increasing its duty on cheese, while China is hitting cheese and whey. With their growing middle-class populations, both countries have become important markets in recent years for the U.S. dairy industry, which has found itself struggling with overproduction in the face of declining domestic milk consumption."

Trump’s Trade War Is Wreaking Havoc on the Dairy Industry, Ironically

Donald Trump talks a lot about America’s dairy industry. Specifically, he likes to go on about how Canada’s tariffs on milk products put our farmers at a disadvantage. This appears to be his main rhetorical justification for starting a small, but diplomatically bruising, trade skirmish with our northern neighbor, which has led to new tariffs on both sides of the border.

This is part of a larger pattern for the Trump administration, which the New York Times documents at length. So far, the administration’s efforts on trade and regulation have ended up hurting the very industries they claim to be helping. The 10 percent tariff Trump placed on aluminum, for instance, has made raw materials more expensive for most of the companies that actually produce aluminum products in the U.S., since they’re generally in the business of importing those raw materials and shaping them into more valuable upstream products. Steel tariffs have made pumping crude more expensive for oil companies by adding to the cost of building rigs and buying equipment. Soybean prices are crashing in response to Chinese tariff threats. Detroit’s car-makers are worried about potential tariffs on foreign autos, with executives warning about possible retaliation. The law of unintended consequences is playing out, or about to play out, in sector after sector of the economy.

The Trump administration has argued that businesses should accept this sort of “short-term pain” while it tries to rewire the entire global trading system to its advantage. But that’s little comfort to the industries that are suffering now, and hard to take seriously when the White House has demonstrated little in the way of a long-term strategy or vision on the issue. The only companies Trump and his Cabinet seemed to have a clear plan for helping was steel—prices are up thanks to the administration’s tariffs—which is unsurprising, since two of the president’s top trade advisers have deep connections to the industry. Other than that, Trump has mostly appeared happy to use industries as props when it fits his needs, while largely ignoring the actual problems his policies have created for them, or the deeper issues that ail them. That’s something everyone should keep in mind when judging his moves on trade: In isolation, they might make some sort of sense, but taken together, the approach is creating a much longer list of American losers than winners.

Don't panic, the elite will be getting more tax cuts. It won't help the dairy farmers, but we know Chump doesn't give a shit about them. It's not like he walked into a dairy convention after the last round of tax cuts and said "You all just got a lot richer,"

We're not 3vrn one month into these July 9th first round of tariffs. Imagine where we will be 2 months from now.

Trump can't control other countries stopping their tariffs. I have a feeling they'll ratchet theirs up as the elections get closer and you can guarantee they will not stop there tariffs until they make a lot more money than us.

other countries can´t make ore money in a trade war.
actually the US is an important market for the world and the sales to US will be missed.
but no other country that is still open for global free trade will not be effected that much as US is on the long run.

on top of that nobody will make a contract with a liar and someone who gives a shit on contracts.

the point is that on one side nobody (except trump) wants a trade war - on the other hand nobody can rely on trump and want to make any deal with him.
I think especially in Europe people think that he have to learn it the hard way and if Europe suffers for a while everyone will accept it.

the president of france already said that he don´t want to make any deal with trump and france do have a strong voice in the EU. I think the EU is playing on time as they all assume that he will be out after the midterms. what juncker have agreed for now is that everything is as it is. no new tariffs but also no change on the situation.
he spoke about a "long term plan with the united states". if someone speaks about "long term" in that case means clearly, that trump is not included in that.

I'm beginning to like Bladewire. Nothing to do all day besides wait for his threads to ALMOST hit Page 2 - Then he trolls his own threads / bumps them back to the top again.

Not only that, he claims he's from California but posts @ 4am Cali time / 7am East Coast time.
Claims he's in the industry but nobody has ever met him.

Classic mental imbalance from this nutjob.

Tell me I am wrong, Tommy. Name one person you've met face to face in the industry.
Just one. Or one trade show you've attended.
