Early 60's music aficionados

If you are an aficionado of early 60's music you need to add this to your YOUTUBE bookmarks.

October 1964 - T.A.M.I.

Chuck Berry
Gerry and the Pacemakers
The Miracles with (of course) the amazing Smokey Robinson
Marvin Gaye
Lesley Gore (Check out her stage presence at the ripe old age of 18)
Jan and Dean
The Beach Boys
Billy J. Kramer and The Dakotas
The Supremes with the wonderful Diana Ross
The Barbarians
The Unbelievable James Brown and The Famous Flames
The Rolling Stones

From what I can see, all the performances on this that I watched appear to be live which is not all that common for the time. There was a whole lotta lip synching going on back in those days.

This is 2 hours of some of the best groups of the time all together for one night at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

There is apparently a DVD release of this from 2010, it was never released on VHS. I am going to have to see if I can track down a DVD, this concert is pure gold as far as I am concerned.

I hope you enjoy it.

60's was never my thing, but I find myself listening to 70's rock sometimes while working. And what is cool sometimes is a 40's channel on Sirus XM.

sarettah, that was a delightful film to watch. Never heard of it. I also learned of the existence of "Electronovision." According to wiki, that was the "HD" of their time. It certainly allowed for a transfer to a very nice-looking Youtube video.

And I gotta say, the dancer in the bikini with the giant hooters dancing her ass off behind Chuck Berry at 16:00...knocked me outta my seat. I can only imagine how pornographic that must have come across, back in this Donna Reed era. And my condolences to the girl who was forced to dance beside her, that she didn't have a rock to go crawl under. A rare occasion when the better dancer still loses.

Also a teenage Teri Garr as a background dancer around 1:12:30. She's the girl with the target on her shirt. Cute as fuck. She went on to have a long career, I suppose because of all those cute dancers, she was the one who said yes to the right producer.

An all-around fun film with great music. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing. Fan of many of those groups seeing them live brought back the shows they did and no one could hear over the screaming.

More a fan of mid to late 60s and early 70s.

I had this bookmarked and forgot about it

I would rather be blind than deaf, music makes my world go round

not super into older stuff but this is one of my favs from that era

and another

back to the present, all of which is built on the past and better for it:

as to James Brown in your list (his spiffy cape deserves a mention too): Say it loud...
