The tyrant known as Google strikes again

"We wanted to let you know of a change: with the release of Chrome 71 in early December 2018, Chrome will remove all ads on sites that have been in “Failing” status for more than 30 days. This is in addition to preventing those sites from opening new windows or tabs."

Some nerdy cuck up in the google offices gets to decide what webmasters should put on THEIR site.

At that point, I would just block my website from chrome users. Why tf would I allow them if google block all ads and block external link?

This is a gross example of abuse of power and this is the reason why google needs to be regulated. Because they have a near pure monopoly on the browser market, they use this power to strong-arm webmasters.

Google: "Do as I say or else we will drain your revenue stream"

Do you think they will stop there?

Yes in Google webmaster tools and via email.

Here is the full info on the changes

Further protections from harmful ad experiences on the web

Further protections from harmful ad experiences on the web

Monday, November 5, 2018

Last year, after hearing from Chrome users, we launched a set of user protections against “abusive experiences” -- experiences designed to intentionally mislead and trick users into taking action on the web. These protections blocked pop-ups and new window requests from sites with certain abusive experiences like redirecting pages.

However, we've learned since then that this approach did not go far enough. In fact, more than half of these abusive experiences are not blocked by our current set of protections, and nearly all involve harmful or misleading ads. These ads trick users into clicking on them by pretending to be system warnings or “close” buttons that do not actually close the ad. Further, some of these abusive ad experiences are used by scammers and phishing schemes to steal personal information.

Two types of abusive experiences where a deceptive site control appears to do one thing, but has a different behavior when clicked. One looks like a play button on a video but sends the user to an unwanted download when clicked (left), and the other looks like a close button but instead opens unwanted pop-up windows (right).

As a result, today we are announcing expanded efforts to better protect users against these abusive experiences. Starting in December 2018, Chrome 71 will remove all ads on the small number of sites with persistent abusive experiences. Site owners can use the Abusive Experiences Report in their Google Search Console to see if their site contains any of these abusive experiences that need to be corrected or removed. Site owners will have a 30 day window to fix experiences flagged by the Report before Chrome removes ads.

With Chrome, users are always in control and can disable abusive sites filtering by going to their Chrome Settings.

Stronger protections ensure users can interact with their intended content on the web, without abusive experiences getting in the way.

I dont understand what this has to do with scammers but since you dont grasp the issue at hand. The problem is that a company is using it's power to strong-arm webmasters and this will affect those who use pop unders, which is a large portion of the adult market.

If you use search console, then yes. If not, then you are screwed. You will just see your revenue plummeting

Strong-arming webmasters to make sites that don't deceive users, bombard them with pop-ups/unders, etc. sounds good to me. Good user experience = more and more return visits.
Treat users well and they will come back.

OP is in right about too much power in Google hands but this is not new, they are doing it for years but that is the reality and reason why we must follow their requirements, at least for now.

Anyway, this is something that many people don't understand. It is just a matter of time when most of the shady or black hat techniques people are using every day will fail. Google is actually doing a good job if you take a bigger picture. It is not ideal, but much better than total anarchy. Unwanted and violent ads are incredible irritating stuff.

For me, this is great news. Popunders and unwanted ads are the second most disturbing thing after tube sites. And this is not new for anyone following SEO news, it was clear that Google is going after negative stuff for so many years back. People usually react when they are hit personally.

Considering that they already implemented a requirement for popups and mobile version of sites, this seems like logical next step. Personally, I was expecting that sites with popups will be punished at some point and it is totally fair from my perspective of the person writing good SEO articles, taking care about user experiences and not trying to spam people with unwanted crap.

For example, at the moment when Google announced update about mobile and popups, I had to drop my complete plan and strategy of collecting emails with popups. Yeah, it sucks but we need to adapt.

What I've learned after all these years and constant changes that going slow and by the book is the smartest and safest way. I know that many people won't agree but it is the only way to avoid frustration and sudden drops after SE updates that will come, undoubtedly.

People running quality sites will only benefit from this and this is ok. Quality. At the end it is nothing new, Google is telling that for years: quality articles, informative texts, and value for the visitors.

Having pop-ups and non-related ads remind me to the experience of shopping peacefully while suddenly a bunch of some dirty and loud people starts pulling you by the hand to sell you something you don't want or need.

At this point, I believe that it is also a matter of time when tube sites will be hit what will devastate biggest % of the adult business and that would finally be a great thing to see and kind of a reset.

Well said

I'll also add that for those who buy traffic, this is awesome news!

Tricking people to get those clicks and sending paid traffic to sites they don't want to be is a shit thing to do to the surfer & the person buying the traffic.

Nothing special with that update, they will just block ads which poses as fake update.

it is not bad for free sites.
in fact since the new google rules the results on clicks are MUCH better as all this fake clickbait shit is banned.

website owners that really take care that see a nice step by step increase of their revenue because of the click quality and because of lower clickrates that lead less people from the site.

even when it was quite much work to change all that I am pretty happy that Google forced website owners not to pass the line.
even the numbers of adblocker has decreased since than.
