Are oryginal videos descriptions important for SEO?
I would like to ask some lame question. I have small niche tube site which embeds videos from big tubes like XVideos. I'm using WP-SCRIPT for my site. I read many times that oryginal hand-written video title is important for SEO. But would like to ask: what with video descriptions? Which is the best? Leave them empty, duplicate decription from title or write oryginal description too? If oryginal, how long it should be for SEO? One sentence or much? Logically would be - additional, oryginal and long description would be best for SEO. But I'm not sure for that because I "spied" other smaller and bigger embedding videos tube vebsites and most of them have only video title, but no video description at all! Maybe 10% of sites I watched have oryginal descriptions too besides title, but it was only one sentence descriptions for each video, no longer! So please tell me from your experience, what is the best option: no video description, description copied from title, one sentence oryginal description or longer (how long) oryginal decription? I will be very grateful for each answer.

I don't use video descriptions on my tubes (too much work), but always use original titles. I'd consider adding some 50-100 words original video descriptions on smaller niche tubes, it can only help.

Hard to say what traffic increase those video descriptions can bring. For 20% it's probably not worth the effort. I only use original titles and my tubes rank for thousands of various terms.

I too only use origial titles for my imported videos. I’m sure that if I would add an original description for them it would help. But like Denny wrote here, it’s too much work.

It is actually kinda like this:
You start a niche tube and do unique long descriptions and unique titles. Your site progresses daily in search engines (it is beautiful to watch it grow day by day). At some moment in time space continuum, your tube will get the attention of site scrapers and cloners. They'll pop 3-4-5 scrambled clones of your site and enhance it with some backlinks. You'll continue writing your descriptions / titles / texts but you'll also notice your site is suddenly stagnating in serps. Your site will start dropping in se traffic, because those clones will actually get more benefit from your unique texts (coz it is a game on what google indexes first). There you go ![]()

Oh, thank you very much for your experience, it's worth very much!
So, no sense for writing unique descriptions for site, because it brings danger of being cloned and defeated by cloners with more valuable backlinks. Is it possible to get some organic traffic with only oryginal titles and no or small backlinks? ![]() |

Yes, I use tags... I run niche tubes, If I launch a new tube I start with like 50-80 videos and then add a few new ones weekly.

Interesting discussion. I hadn't thought about the site scrapers and cloners. It makes sense. To answer the original question, i'm writing mini-descriptions for now, but maybe with more traffic i won't do it anymore.

Focus your time and energy in your category and tag pages, they get updated on a daily basis, which google loves pages that get constant updates. Then watch your webmaster tools to see which pages are actually getting listed in Google, not just spidered. When you find a page that is receiving a click here or there but is not on the first page of the search results, go in and start to write long descriptions on those pages to help with SEO. After making a major change to the page, within webmaster tools use "URL Inspection" and select "Request Indexing". That way you don't have to wait until the google bot picks up the changes. I've been told not to over use this feature, so I normally only submit a page or two per week per domain, but it can speed up the time to getting the changes looked up by months if your site is not being spidered regularly. Good luck ![]()

Very good advice with adding longer decription especially for pages/videos getting clicks, thanks!
![]() I don't have any categories, because my site is niche (BBW), and I don't have any tags, but I read everywhere that was bad decision ![]() Please tell me, when importing videos from big tubes: can I import tags exactly as on tube, or it is important to have oryginal tags, same as oryginal titles/descriptions? |

I've got some feeder sites that still use WP with a script to grab videos from the big 10, I have it pull in titles and re-write them, and then to use the cat's and tags that are set the way they were on the tubes. I've found that the tags are usually more on target than the cat's with some tubes, so I've been truncating the cat's and focus on just the tags the last few months. To keep my tag's page from going totally fucking crazy, I'll go into WP every few weeks and purge any tag's that don't have more than a handful of videos associated with them, the exception to that rule is site name tags, so if it's tagged with say jeffsmodels then I'll leave something like that since you want to get SE attention for type-ins that are searching for a certain pay-site with keywords. Again, make sure and spend your time working over the descriptions and KW on the tag or cat pages, depending on which you choose to use. I wouldn't use both, pick one and go with it, but having both is just going to cause Google to see lot's of duplicate content!! So edit your sitemap to include the one you plan to market, and no-follow the other within your theme! It's a lot of fucking work, but if you want SE traffic you have to do it ![]()

Does your site re-direct the traffic back to major tube sites? Or does on click video not redirect?
That is first issue.

On my end here what i do, I focus on nice titles and tags on my video sites only and i keep description for photo galleries sites to keep the bounce rate down. I never went for backlinks they came by themseves But if i would want some backlinks i would go for those who will bring me traffic with a rel="nofollow" but u go for some dofollow and pay for backlinks seo that shit is risky. My 2cents

I'm using wp-script with clean tube player so no redirects. My average visitor watches 5 videos until leave.
I decided to use oryginal title + oryginal one sentence description for each video at this moment. Must think about longer description for most popular videos. Must also think about implementing tags, because this is surely much work ![]() Thanks for answers ![]() |

it's a trade-off
google loves unique copy, the more of it the better, if you can write a bunch of unique copy for every page on your website, google will like that but if you write unique copy for every video, it'll take you MUCH longer to add videos to your site. you'll have way fewer videos overall. so you'll have less pages that could rank and you'll have less content for your visitors so your engagement metrics will probably be worse (which google won't like) I see both types of sites ranking: sites with lots of scraped/embedded content but nothing unique, and sites with limited content but lots of unique copy. Either approach can work. Google loves unique copy, and they love strong engagement metrics. You probably can't have both unless you're pornhub/xvideos/xhamster, so pick one and focus on it. |

At the start of my website I just embedded videos with fully copied content. From some time i started to write unique titles/desriptions. Now I have about 1000 videos on site and 300 oryginal / 700 copied (trying to make copied -> unique slowly). At this moment - can these 700 copied content harm the oryginal 300 ones and make them ranked worse?

You'd probably do more harm than good if you just dropped the 700 pages that are copied. Google hate's to see massive jumps up or down in large amounts of your pages. Makes them think something is amiss
![]() Your pages are only hurting you, if you get a manual penalty which will show up in your webmaster tools, so if you want to get rid of them, do so slowly and make sure that they aren't picking up search terms already. Again google gives us all the tools we need to see what needs help and improvement on our sites with GA and the webmaster tools, we just have to use them ![]() Good luck ![]()

So what is better for now?
![]() 1. Left only 300 oryginal vids and delete 700 copied or 2. Slowly rename 700 copied vids to make it unique (for example 10 daily, which takes some months) ? No matter what, since some time I'm uploading 4 fresh oryginal vids daily. |

I would leave the old videos alone, unless you see that google picked one of them up and it's down on the list of search results and you want to see if you can get it to move up. Focus on making sure you have new stuff coming online, and work your tag/category pages and see that they have good text and meta's to draw the bot into spidering those pages more often like it does the front of your site. Then if you have spare time, start re-doing the old video pages. Good Luck ![]()
