Princy / AdultKing etc, a quick question please...
Know you are into older computers - quick question. The commodore pet?
If you were going to talk about it to someone would you say 'The commodore pet" with the pet in the same way as you would say 'My dog is my pet" or would you say the commodore P. E. T. " saying the last 3 letters as separate letters? Just curious. ![]() EDIT Not Bi-Curious... |

Interesting thing about the PET, initially it came with a square calculator keyboard and in inbuilt cassette recorder, people hated that keyboard, then they bought out a version with a more traditional keyboard. However collectors now will seek out the one everyone hated if they can find one. It was a nice machine for it's day. Iconic design that still stands on it's own. |

Yeah, I would say pet as in dog as well. Will Wheaton however, apparently disagrees and uses the acronym version while reading the audiobook version of "Ready Player One'
It kinda stood out like a sore thumb to me, really grinding on my ears, but I wondered if I was the one who had been pronouncing it wrong all these years. I never used a commodore pet myself, but I did enjoy the Sharp MZ80K which appears to be very similar to the pet ![]() |

The PET was of course 6502 based, the MZ80K was a LH-0080 (Z-80 compatible) system. ![]() I preferred 6502 based machines after I moved on from my Altair which was 8080 based. The reason for this was that programming the 6502 in machine code was much simpler because it had a relatively small instruction set and would run 4 times faster than an 8080 or Z-80 at the same clock speed. There were also many more readily available chips for adding functionality to machines, such as the AY series synthesiser chips. The 6502 machine I used for most of the lated 70s to mid 80s was the Ohio Scientific Challenger 4P which was maxed out with all sorts of add ons. |
