What is the WEIRDEST scientific theory do YOU believe?

What "fringe" scientific theory fascinates you?

Here's mine:
since humanity's been around since 120,000 years.... Is it really that crazy to think that in the distant past, there was an ADVANCED CULTURE that had some of the same tech we have now...

Sound crazy?

Well, keep in mind that the INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION (and the tech it unleashed) was only 300 years ago!

Now, focus on the fact that humans have been around 120,000 years....

We have the same BRAINS as those ancestors.

Would it be really crazy to think that previously humans had high tech?

I strongly believe there's a tribe of Amazonian women living at the earth's core that look very much like Caroline Munro.

Kind of sounds like the overall concept of The Matrix.

Not the living in a false reality part, but the part where it's all been done over and over many times.

I like the idea that you can live forever inside your thoughts the exact moment you die. Kind of like that movie Jacob's Ladder, but without the horrifying visions of demons. In my version, I would be fucking a football stadium full of naked Instagram models and bust 2000 nuts a day.

An advanced culture in the past? Yes, I can believe that.

But they certainly didn't have any of the technology we have today. Because it would have been obsolete and useless to them.

I wouldn't say "believe" so much as "open to" but the theory that time is an illusion and that all moments in time exist simultaneously.

Which raises all sorts of questions, like:
Doesn't this mean we are basically immortal?
And if everything that's going to happen has already happened/is happening, then wouldn't that mean that free-will is also an illusion?

You can prove this is true actually, to an extent.

If you get a steel ball that weighs 1 pound and you hold it a foot above a body of water that's 1 meter long and 1 meter deep you can predict exactly where the ripple will be, how tall the will be and how many there will be.

Doesn't the fact that we can predict the future to such an extreme extent tell us that future already exists, or has existed, or exists simultaneously?

Doesn't the fact that we can predict the future from the past say something about time & free will?

I'm not talking about a causal relationship, where the effects of actions can be accurately predicted.

Rather, at the same moment the universe is being formed, the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs is striking the earth, Neil Armstrong is walking on the moon, you're being born, you're dropping the ball in the water, and you're also dying. Everything that has ever happened or will ever happen is happening right this moment. Past, present, and future are all the same, the only difference is your perception in that moment.

It makes sense. We can predict the future. When we look through a telescope we're seeing the past. It's been proven that an atom can be at multiple locations at the same point in time so.. anything is possible.

The Same Atoms Exist in Two Places Nearly 2 Feet Apart Simultaneously

I think humans were capable of traveling the world by sea much eariler than current history shows. I think there is enough evidence to show that many acient civilizations had at least some contact with each other.. They might not of had advaced trade routes but I think they did intermingle a bit be it on purpose or accidental encounters.

this is even better...go on top of a building and measure the exact height of your position..lets say just for arguments sake that the building is 290 feet tall...now get a rope that is exactly 289 feet long and a brick...tie the brick to one end of the rope....tie the other end of the rope to your nutsack,,,throw the brick off the building...

now heres the fun part...I can predict what will happen even though this has never been done in the past! trippy shit!

Dude, if Richard Hume can prove that CAUSATION is an illusion then pretty much the theory you mentioned is good to go

You mean David Hume - an Empiricist. His argument wasn't that causation didn't exist, but that it was a defect in man's intellect to link two separate events as one causing the other based merely on repeated observations. Just because we see a correlation in the past 99 events, the next event is separate and our expectations of it should not be influenced by the previous events.

Interesting philosophy and something we would be well served to think about whenever we start making assumptions of correlation and causation.

Funny thing. I always confuse Hume with Jeremy Bentham (Utilitarianism), who had his corpse stuffed and put on display. I hear Hume, and I'm like - oh yeah, he had himself stuffed. No, wait...

I'd love to go back and re-read my philosophy books, but who's got the time?

We've verified this on a scale much larger than just atoms.

An asshole can exist simultaneously in both the White House and Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

It's happening as we speak.

I have been testing this theory over and over again ever since...
