Latest Google Update

How have you experienced this latest update?

For years my traffic was on the lower end from Google and no matter what I did, it never seemed to budge. I know my bounce rate was fine and I wasn't into any Blackhat stuff (except building and buying a few quality links here and there).

Then March 2018, Google had another update and my traffic tripled. I thought it was just me but after reading a couple threads here in GFY it seemed that Google finally accepted adult sites again as legit and was sending more traffic in general to adult sites.

Then March 2019, Google's update had me losing 1/3 of my traffic which wasn't too bad but I was scratching my head trying to figure out what I had done.

Now with this latest early June update all my traffic is back without me having made any changes.

The point I'm trying to make is that, on my end at least, solid engagement by the surfers in your site's content + some solid backlinks = the best you can do.

After that you just hope Google favors you. In years passed when Google didn't like adult I could have had the best onsite SEO etc. and it wouldn't have made a difference.

What's your take on all this?

My take is the view that "Google doesn't or didn't like adult sites" is complete bullshit made up by people unwilling to seriously look in the mirror objectively. And I am 100% okay with this because it makes growing my sites that much easier.

As for the latest update, it's mostly a major refresh of the March 2019 update. Fixing the mistakes from that and improving the corrections. My biggest site lost about 20k daily SE in March update, but that's back +10k from this update.

I hear you and believe there may be some truth to that.

But what about the fact that March 2018 most people in adult reported much more Google traffic? Without doing anything different?

Also, Google used to show lots of mainstream results for adult searches like "public nudity" etc. where they are now showing more adult results.

I do hear you about "looking in the mirror" and know that to be true. I'm just wondering what else could be true in all this.

You seems to be right, been a while since i was checking censored keywords, but i remember clearly how last time when i was checking keyword "pornstar" there was not a single porn result, while now it's only porn results. But keyword of all keywords - pussy it's still marked as mainstream keyword.. And key problem remain, almost all keywords dominated by either pornhub or xvideos.

"Public nudity" doesn't imply pornography or "adult" on its own. It could be a very general search by someone who just got charged with a related crime, maybe a trending news story either nationally or local to the end-users' area, etc., so I wouldn't even say that's an inherently "adult" keyword.

"public nudity porn" is, however.

Porn stars name only searches is almost always just porn sites and always has been, but sometimes a mainstream publication will write a story about a specific porn star or a group of porn stars. Vice.com (for example) is always going to out rank, at least temporarily, freeones.com or similar and definitely smallpornblogexample.com. Every time.

Google doesn't censor or filter adult sites. The way Google works today is much different from an end-user perspective than even a couple years ago, let alone a decade ago. Intent is extremely important, as is the data Google collects about users' intent as a macro sample.

I take what most people in adult say, especially on here, with a big heaping grain of salt.

March 2018, however, there was a big increase in SE traffic for long-tail keywords directly to content pages (based on data I have access to anyways). This jives with what Google says the update was about. Rewarding "high quality pages" that they felt were "previously under-rewarded".

Yeah I hear you. I guess I have to continue keeping that in mind. I've had lots of profitable transactions on here and good experiences, but also have been scammed a few times as well. Plus all of the trolling and fake nicks etc.

That seems to be where most of my increase in traffic has gone to as well, long tail keywords pages that people visit over and over.

Most recent update saw a pretty decent bump in search engine traffic. Can't complain about it.

Also, it does look like the new Googlebot can really read ES6 going by what I'm seeing in the results. That's a good thing that probably help sites that employ modern JS to rank better.

If webmasters are doing SEO by the book and not trying to make shortcuts, new updates shouldn't make any problems

I lost about half of my traffic. But I have been lacking in updating the sites the past six months. Always when I get hit I get motivated and traffic rises consistently and when it's back to normal I get lazy again. Need to change that, also still haven't figured out how to effectively promote on social media, I hear many people say it can be done.

I did not see any change, neither March nor the June update. But there's something we need to note. Open Google on a mobile device and search for something. 3 huge ad zones, Wikipedia, pictures, videos by YouTube, 3 more ad zones, recommended searches, etc. True results appear only when you tap Show more results. This is not yet valid for our industry, but obviously this will happen sooner or later. The truth is that Google is no longer a reliable source of traffic and you have to look for alternatives-social networks, forums, chats.. anything else. Google is an antisearch engine and they'll show you only paid results.

Well today seems like my traffic is back to normal, so I'm instantly back to being lazy

I had a tube site lose -70% keywords and -60% se traffic due to this June update. It had experienced continuous se growth from May 2018 up until that point. High quality tube site, unique content, unique text and great metrics! It only had one advert on the site, as generated revenue from premium membership.
