the root of the word bikini
it comes from the bikini islands in the pacific...100.000+ people live there and it was the location of the US nuclear tests...the bikini island specifically was the first place to get nuked...the USA absolutely shit on their country in the most horrendous possible way...the people of the islands were used as guinea pigs to study the effects of radiation on the human body...they were given radiation laced drinks and were forcefully moved to radiated areas to live by the US government...they are now the most irradiated people on the planet...recently the islanders pleaded with greenpeace to move them to a safer location because the US government would not stop the tests and denied to move them...the rainbow warrior moved them to safety to an uncontaminated island...operation exodus...google it...the islanders ran out of appeal money to get compensation for the utter destruction of their land...google "jelly fish babies marshal islands"...human babies that resemble jelly...thanks USA!...
anyway, the term bikini was coined for the swimsuit because the swimsuit was such a bomb shell at the time and also a symbol of kindness of the USA towards the weak...nice... great documentary about the destruction the USA brings to the asia pacific region: |

The ancient Roman Villa Romana del Casale (286–305 AD) in Sicily contains one of the earliest known illustrations of a bikini
![]() But amazingly, you're right that the name was inspired by the Bikini Islands |

You're so full of shit.
Yes, the swimsuit is named for the atoll (which is ironic because they were very modest in their attire), and the US conducted atomic tests there, but not on the people. The atoll is currently uninhabited (with the exception of a small number of caretakers), though marine life appears to be thriving there, now. And, the displaced residents were financially compensated when it became apparent they would not be able to return. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclea...t_Bikini_Atoll https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bikini_Atoll https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart...sts-180963833/ https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-test-60-years But yeah, whatever, the US is bad. Come back when you have some new material.

No they were not compensated...the poor people ran out of money to sue the nuclear bomb droppers...sure the USA gave a few pennies here and there, but the natives who live there are the most radiated people on the planet...the USA literally used them as guinea pigs...watch the documentary...

I see your confusion. The "inhabitants" in the video don't live on Bikini. They live on Rongelap Atoll - roughly 100 miles away.

There is no confusion...you nuclear dumped the living shit out of their world...its better to live 100km from chernobyl than where they live...the poor people spent all compensation money on appeals and the USA did a "USA" and fucked them over...the USA used them as human guinea pigs...they got pennies in "compensation"...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bikini
In May 1946, fashion designer Jacques Heim from Paris released a two-piece swimsuit design that he named the Atome.[3] Like swimsuits of the era, it covered the wearer's navel, and it failed to attract much attention. Clothing designer Louis Réard introduced his new, smaller design in July.[4] He named the swimsuit after the Bikini Atoll, where the first public test of a nuclear bomb had taken place only four days before. His skimpy design was risque, exposing the wearer's navel and much of her buttocks. No runway model would wear it, so he hired a nude dancer from the Casino de Paris to model it at a review of swimsuit fashions.[5] Due to its controversial and revealing design, the bikini was accepted very slowly by the public. The swimsuit gained increased exposure and acceptance as film stars like Brigitte Bardot, Raquel Welch, and Ursula Andress wore them and were photographed on public beaches and seen in film. In many countries the design was banned from beaches and other public places.[6] The minimalist bikini design became common in most Western countries by the mid-1960s as both swimwear and underwear. By the late 20th century it was widely used as sportswear in beach volleyball and bodybuilding. There are a number of modern stylistic variations of the design used for marketing purposes and as industry classifications, including monokini, microkini, tankini, trikini, pubikini, and skirtini. A man's single-piece brief swimsuit may also be called a bikini.[2] Similarly, a variety of men's and women's underwear types are described as bikini underwear. |

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bikini
Etymology From French bikini, named after the place name Bikini, from English Bikini, the name of the atoll where the United States tested nuclear weapons in July 1946; it was reckoned that the bathing suit would cause as much excitement as a nuclear bomb. This name was originally from German Bikini, the colonial name of the atoll as part of German New Guinea, and this was derived from Marshallese Pikinni. It wasn't too difficult to dig.
