Shame we never had a nuclear war in the 70s...

Wwe were well prepared with great advice like "If you are outside, simply lay on the ground until the explosion passes' etc... I'm sure we would have all been fine with this great government advice...

Scariest thing though, is visiting a decommised nuclear bunker that was designed for MPs and Royals etc, and realising how deep down you are with such thick walls etc, and watching one of these 'Information films' on a TV inside the bunker...

Entering through massive blast doors

you will be transported into the chilling world of the Cold War.
Re-built in the 1980’s at a cost of over £32 million, it was transformed into the blast-proof headquarters you can explore today. Previously classified, you can see the governments preparations for nuclear war and step into the lives of those who worked here. There is a Minister of State’s office, life support, communication centre, decontamination facilities, telephone exchange and much more! View original broadcasts to be transmitted on all TV channels prior to nuclear attack.

we have nuclear bunkers all over our 3rd world shit hole...it is a shame we never developed nukes to keep invaders away and not have to waste money on conventional warfare...

So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that

Wow that's so cool! I would love to see that in real life. Do you happen to know if there are any American ones you can visit? I love old tech, old army tech, and the entire atomic craziness of the 40's, 50's and 60's. Putting all that together into a tour is strangely exciting to me.

I visited a few times around 1980, they where still active than. I played 'victim' for fireman drills. They had to look for you blindfolded. My father had special pass because he was allowed in if a nuclear attack would have happened (and leave his family outside). Most important government buildings had (and i think still have) nuclear bunkers. Big doors, showers to clean you from nuclear waste, kitchen, sick bay, everything was there.

No idea about the ones in the States. Just 2 that I know of in the UK. Its really spooky when you are in there. Strange sense of uneasiness...

Not from the place itself exactly, but more from the realization of how much the government lied to you about what could happen, while ensuring that they remained totally safe themselves.

Even the fact that the entrance id around a corner, from a long sloping corridor. Reason for that was so if it was getting invaded by contaminated people after the blast, they could shoot up the corridor from round the corner - OK, reading that back, it sounds ridiculous, but that was pretty much one of the design details. They remain safe, man on the street gets FUCKED !
