:stop Government Criminalizes Off Grid Living

Government clamps down on off-grid cabins.

Whether for political, ideological, environmental or financial reasons or perhaps simply because of a thirst for the simpler life, more and more people across the United States are choosing to move off grid and into tiny homes.

Solar Pod House Ecocapsule Off-the-grid

Many tiny houses are equipped to produce their own energy using small solar panels or wind turbines and they also often have the equipment to collect and clean rainwater. This means that many tiny properties are capable of existing entirely off the grid which makes them attractive to various people for a number of ideological reasons.

However, it appears that this aspect of the tiny home movement has ruffled some feathers in the political arena leading to a stamp down on tiny houses. At this current time, most towns in the United States have a minimum square footage requirement for single-family homes, often saying that tiny houses must be affiliated with a larger, conventional property. There are also a huge number of varying laws across different states which require that all residential properties be hooked up to utilities, which is often an unnecessary cost for tiny home dwellers.

I love the idea of going off grid. Have some property I'd like to do a tiny house with solar, propane and a water tank. Compost toilet...not as exited about that.

You can thank jewrats for this sort of thing.

They need to keep everyone in their debt-based system. Without debt their whole financial system falls apart.

Suprising enough in FL many locations around Orlando have actually legalized tiny houses in back yards or private lots.

A lot of houses off the grid are not tiny. While I don't want to be entirely off the grid, I do want to limit how much I depend on the outside world. Having well water, solar power panels and a generator , but being out in the country is the best feeling, actually looking to move within a year. Tired of LA

Most people who are smart if they are trying to live off grid or in a tiny house do it in the "county". IE rural areas with out "city" ordinances. Minimum square footage has been around for a very long time because it helps keep tax income higher and housing prices higher so they get more taxes.. It's nothing new..

In FL and many states they will not give you a occupancy certification unless you are hooked to the power grid.. Meaning any tiny house is illegal if it's not hooked to power. The loop hole in FL & many other places is to keep them on wheels so it's like a travel trailer which is why you see so many on small trailers, because it's often legal to live on your land in the country in a RV, just not in city limits in most places.

I'm more concerned about the issue with being hooked to power than anything else, because with my experience in using solar, I know for 100% fact I could build a off grid house run 100% off solar/battery system.

That's with tech we already have I know I could 100% power a modern smaller house from the sun.. As batteries and panels get better it's only going to become cheaper and easier.. Which means the only purpose for forcing people to stay grid tied is to forcibly tax people into buying electric from a power company in order to subsidize big business and keep the power grids active..

The future should not be about power grids but rather localized power and self sufficiency.

Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma and Utah are the only states where it's still legal to gather rainwater.

Colorado has been the only state with an outright ban on residential rain barrels and one of just four states that restrict rainwater harvesting. Water law experts say rain barrels are only technically illegal, because proving they injure the water rights of other users is nearly impossible.

That is what they start doing in the whole of Holland.

While in Germany they want everybody on natural gas and you get money if you get a natural gas connection...

Its long been illegal to collect rain water in CO and some other westren states. I think someone sued the state over it and got it overturned but I maybe wrong. Its part due to people were building large retention ponds illegally up in the mountians to create water caches from the snow melt where as that snow melt is how the state supplies most of its water and many states down stream depend on water from the Rockies ice melt and rain run off.

Those people that keep moving to places like Vegas and Southern Cali are soon gonna find out about water restrictions.. They can claim global warming is fake all they want but they will start getting a reality check when their water faucets run dry...

It's 100% going to happen

Hate to break it to you but min square footage laws have been around forever. It was a way to keep poor people and minorities out of white areas..Its been a thing in the south for a long ass time..

They are designed to keep low income housing out and its certainly not a commie thing unless you are now calling conservatives commies..

Once again right wingers get outraged about laws passed by right wingers and then try to blame liberals....
