I Printed this just for you guys!

Not really, it's for a client and when finished, joined and painted will be 5'-11" tall and used as a coat rack in their office!

It's running on 4 of my Anycubic Chiron's each one is 400x400x450mm i sliced it in Meshmixer into multiple parts so that i could finally get a life size print when all joined together. Each part is around 150-200 hours machine time in a white PLA. Had to smooth the STL file out in Strata 3D as the original was only supposed to be 6" tall and would have been too pixilated (polygons)

What do you need to charge for all that time?

Might be less effort to carve the thing out wood?

We are doing other things while the machines are printing .The most time is spent designing and finishing each project,

Its far from finished, after we have printing all the parts they have to be sanded joined with studding and then airbrushed . At least 100 hours of work before its finished.

Oh wow, is it a lot of work because of it being a hard material?

This material is PLA Polylactic Acid its a biodegradable plastic that if left in the sun (UV) will dissolve into the ground within 6 months. If painted or in some way protected it can last a lifetime. 3D printing lays it down in .2mm layers and thats what we have to sand down as the layers can be quite visible. Its not hard but takes an inordinate amount of time due to the life size prints we produce.

Very nice.

I have 10 printers but I mostly do superhero and star wars helmets, blasters and guns, and droids.

Thanks, we are trying to find space to add more of the Anycubic Chiron's, we have ten of those and need more but with the heated cabinets we build around them they take up a huge amount of space. Adding 5kg spools in place of the tiny 1kg spools of filament has made the cabinets even bigger. Hopefully one day one of these companies will make a 600x600x1200mm machine that prints ten times faster for a reasonable price.

Have you tried Klipper? I was assume the biggest problem on your printers is the mass of the hot end moving quickly and causing ringing issues.

No i have not, but my biggest issue is that we have to slice everything up to fit on the bed 400x400x450mm ringing is not an issue as it's a bowden cable machine and the hot end is very light.

That's too much work IMHO. I mean a lot of time, expensive equipment/materials etc. How much a couple 5'-11" model will cost to the customer?

They are expensive but its all relative. The companies i deal with don't seem to have a problem with money. Compared to my CNC machines which average $100,000-$120,000 each these 3D filament printers are peanuts. An American machine can cost $5000 while a larger machine from China costa round $400-$500 and with a little maintenance they work well.
