Youtube planning on mass censoring/deleting channels december 10

Content creators everywhere are starting to panic about an upcoming policy change over at YouTube that threatens to eliminate all accounts and channels on the Google-owned video platform that are deemed to no longer be “commercially viable.”

In the “Account Suspension & Termination” section of YouTube’s “Terminations by YouTube for Service Changes,” guidelines, the company explains that, as of December 10, 2019, “YouTube may terminate your access, or your Google account’s access to all or part of the Service, if YouTube believes, in its sole discretion, that provision of the Service to you is no longer commercially viable.”

In other words, if you have a YouTube channel that YouTube employees decide isn’t profitable enough for Google, then the company has now granted itself the option to completely shut down your account without warning or consequence.

What this means is that YouTube content creators who’ve built their entire livelihoods around the platform are going to need a backup option in the event that they end up being terminated.

It also means that YouTube has created for itself yet another legal loophole to continue targeting channels that disseminate politically incorrect content, which YouTube has been trying to silence from its platform for at least the past several years.

In essence, YouTube now has a blanket excuse to pull down all channels that it wants to see eliminated by simply claiming that these channels are no longer profitable. And there will likely be no way for targeted YouTube users to prove otherwise.

Really though why do they even need an excuse, they own the platform, traffic etc

If you're that paranoid, subscribe to YouTube Premium, and now your account is commercially viable to them.

You should be able ot have ay damn YouTube Channel you want regardless if it is "profitable" or not. What does profitable even mean? The ads YT is shoving down everyone's throats are not showing on your videos? Ridiculous.

Forget the issue of whether they have the right to do this or not (they obviously do). What if I have a Channel that's a 'vanity' Channel? Where I just post pics of cats, flowers and cupcakes? What if I have 7 subscribers, all family, and upload a video once a year?

Fuck YT.

Then in that case you ARE 'commercially viable' to them, as you are using very little of their resources, and none of their staffs time. You are using youtube as a small part of the overall google suite of products, and as such, your seven videos a year, count towards your information matrix that is collected about you...

I think this is more directed towards the 'political' creator, whos using youtube to try and spew twisted political views... As such, while the channel may be getting good traffic, if they can't monetize it with ads due to its content and views, and staff are having to deal with complaints and issues, and its using up resources, then they are gone....

Anyone making a living from producing good content - Linus Tech Tips for example - Is fine. As is your channel with your cats flowers and cupcakes. Perhaps not so much those who are trying to spread hate, under the guise of their political views...

Maybe if you assholes took a lesson from the jizz biz???

Not so long ago when we dealt in VHS and DVDs the producers were at the whims of distributors. They jerked us around and fucked in the ass for nickles. But worse, you couldn't even bitch about it because they could just stop doing business with you.

The solution has always been CONTROL 100% OF YOUR OWN SHIT.

Only morons depend on a 3rd party to make money. Since Youtube is a distributor, they've got you by the balls if you use them to get your content to the market. So find a way to get your content to the consumer without youtube.

I've wondered since this announcement came out if it's targeted towards people who are using huge amounts of storage space and/or bandwidth without many real users. I imagine it would be nice to reuse massive amounts of space and delete some of the crap out there. It's a business, all about making money.

Well that may be true but I tend to not trust those in power who say they are policing themselves with the best of intentions. But we will see who gets deleted to know more.

Facebook doesn't give a shit if politicians lie, Zuckerberg said so after a private meeting with the President. Then on 60 Minutes the President of YouTube says a total lie Trump Ad is ok on YT too since it doesn't "technically" violate their policies. So what the fuck, you know?

Basically we are now living in a digital world where it's nearly impossible to know who is lying and who is being accurate. Let the chaos roll on!

Honestly I think it's m likely to be targeted at really long videos with minimal viewing figures. The thing that springs to mind is Warhammer battle reports videos which can be 3-4 hours long and only 1k - 2k of views.

To flip it on its head it could be user who use at block all the time. I know there was a mass banning of people who used new pipe recently.

They're getting rid of small channels that don't make them a profit to send them to the ones that do.

Would you run promos that don't make a profit or cut them to send the traffic to ones that do? They're doing the same.

You are missing the key ingredient. Just as a railroad company owns the rails they cannot ban blind people, fat people, handicaped etc....

There are more than one way to make money with smut. Someone only needs to use their brain to figure out a different way and no one is forcing anyone to use the Internet.

Companies increase cash flow through driving sales, raising prices, or cutting costs.

I don't know how google pays for all that bandwidth. Only a matter of time before youtube tries to make itself profitable (or less of a cash sink).

hopefully this is the targeted group, but I doubt it. google is about what google considers 'good for us' i.e what a 20 years old kid from silicon valley thinks is good for us
