Bob was going as the Tony Clifton Character, and supposedly Andy was due to appear - alive - and say 'Surprise' as if his death had all been a great gag, 20 years in the making! Naturally, Andy didn't show up (Spoiler alert - He's really dead ) but at the time, being completely unfamiliar as English people with Andy, 'Tony' & Bob, and their convoluted relationship, in order to prepare for her role (It was a bit more than just showing up as Tony Clifton was her 'Date' and she needed to act in character) we watched that Man on the Moon film about 5 times in a row to get the jist of what was supposed to be happening.Pleased to report that she did a great job being in character on the night, and received a lot of publicity and a good paycheck ! As she said at the time, 'The most she's ever earnt, while keeping her clothes on and not fucking anybody' ! |
