Proxypass + CDN or Other Solution?

Has anyone successfully implemented Proxypass with a CDN? My host is having a hell of a time and has basically told me it's a no-go.

We can monitor logins & brute force at the server level no problem. However, bandwidth/download monitoring is proving to be very difficult with content served from a CDN.

Any ideas/tricks or maybe a solution that plays with a CDN better than Proxypass?

I appreciate any info.

Thanks for the info. Sendfaster is Mojo right? Do you have bandwidth/download monitoring working or just logins/brute force monitoring?

Mojohost is the one saying it's not possible. We have highwinds/stackpath+proxypass through Mojohost.

This makes even less sense now.

Sendfaster is not a cdn I’m guessing the person who replied has no idea what sendfaster is

I could be wrong tho looking at their webpage looks like sendfaster has a built in cdn possibly you would want to ask mojo since it’s their software

This won't work at all, with any cdn or any sort of proxy. The very purpose of a cdn is to cache and re-serve the content from it's own network ergo the traffic never hits your server at all and there is no way for proxypass to count it because it has nothing to count.

What you could do is count the number of download clicks in your platform by using custom download tracking links - and write it to your database.
You won't get accurate bandwidth numbers, but they can be good for estimates / comparison / fraud detection.

I've seen a custom solution where on each download click, an extra pop appears for the user, saying "You have X number of downloads left. Click here to download this file."
I think this second step forces users to manually confirm each download, and prevents false inflated click numbers caused by download managers that might open 10 download links at once but then not download them at all.

All this requires custom coding of course. You have to consider if this is really worth the time and money invested.

First think I thought of was counting the downloads with tracking/security links and build some limitations around that like BigFurry said.

You could also "stream download" the file using javascript in the users browser (like mega.nz does). Download the file in the users memory then on completion it lets the user save the file to disk.

I will try to find some time later today to see if I can build a quick test setup using this library https://github.com/jimmywarting/StreamSaver.js

From StreamSaver.js: "Instead of saving data in client-side storage or in memory you could now actually create a writable stream directly to the file system" Thats even better.
