California Auto Laws

I believe my research is correct, that in the state of California you are not allow to have any window tint on the windshield or side windows next to the driver. Is that correct?

If so...anyone have an opinion on how strict the police are towards window tint? Say if you did have it on you windshield and side windows.

I'm relocating out to California end of this summer.

Thanks

The police make you peel the tint on the spot, most of the time.

There is no $$ tickets involved, just a 'fix-it ticket'.

California sucks for ignorant laws, especially gun laws.

Goodluck.

you can have tinting, however there is some regulation on how dark it can be.

it is, the passenger front that can not have *dark tint*, it can be tinted but not dark, also applies to the
windshield. the rest can be dark, cops don't like it but.

I forgot, unless you have a script from a doctor, all can be tinted dark, but you will get stopped

When I was living in LA, one of my cars was a black 560SEL totally limo level tint on all sides. I never got stopped once out there. The secret I think was the car's communications system appearance. I had a company install a full "presidential limo" type antenna system on the car, there were 6 antennas in all. Any cop seeing it would think the car had to be transporting an ultra important VIP. I could park it virtually anywhere and not get parking tickets either since it had such an official look.

Did you have armor plating and twin front and rear .30 cal machine guns with HUD targetting for the concealed Stinger missles?

Keep it registered in an out of state address. I had a friend that did that to a not-street-legal muscle car that was legal in UTAH.

I don't think you can have a California license and drive a car registered in Florida with the same name? Or can you?

i wouldn't fuck with the cops in LA. we were there (west La/westwood/sunset strip/brentwood and every 3 blocks cops had a car stopped, pointing their guns at people.
on the other hand, you probly won't have that problem unless you are black or mexican.

Well I have tint on mine, been stopped by top cops (not for the tint) the tint on the windshield on mine it at the top (legal
but not very dark) the tint on the passenger side is light, other windows are darker. When a cop stops you in California 99.9% of the time go to the passenger side of your car and ask you to roll down the window, I usually open the door, let' em look in they want to anyway

despite what some of these peep say - you may not have ANY tint on the front windows. I had some on my car - the lightest possible without being clear. I was told by the store putting it in that it was not legal, and they made me sign a paper saying i could not sue them if I got in trouble for it.

I had it on my car for abut 8 months - then I cut off a cop (fucker was not letting me over for shit) and he pulled me over - looked for shit to give me a ticket for and found the tint. I got a fix it ticket so it had to come off.
