SEO question

2 days ago google decided to "kick" the main page from a domain out of the search results.
Before this, for many months, it was already "downgraded" and domain.com/page2.html was favored over for some reason and listed on page 1 for many keywords.
Not a big deal because traffic is traffic and the main page was also getting a ton.

However now the main page is really gone.
It don't want to call it de-indexed otherwise the whole domain would be punished. It is free from any other manual action, has no errors, no robots stuff or whatsoever. In fact i did not touched anything at all for a long time.

so when you search site:domain.com i still get xxxxx domain results but no main page. Anyone has any clue what/where to look for?

The best place to start is inside Google Search Console.

Ask your friend to access your website (on Chrome) and see if they can access it.

You probably on "Google Blacklist".

It cannot be blacklisted if other parts of site are visible. But yes going inside search console would be good start, for example one of the causes could be DMCA of front page.

In January Google deindexed or partially deindexed lots of sites in "teen/young" niche.

Search console looks 100%. No dmca, nothing. All tests are positive (live test etc). No render faults.
The mainpage even shows still indexed, mobile friendly etc etc but maybe because its not updated yet. Meanwhile i requested reindexing and see what it will do.

In fact there is a positive message saying that page 2 is getting a lot more visitors than before, which is probably because the main page in search results has been replaced by page 2.

This is Amateur/Homemade but probably considered the same. During last core update it even went up 40/50%

One of my sites got hit in January. It doesn't return anything for "site:domain.com". Search console doesn't help, it says the site is indexed and there are no issues. Google traffic was reduced by 80%. Requesting reindexing didn't do anything.

What happened to your competitors on that keyword?

I hope this is not a sign for a total de-indexing soon.
Not sure why that would happen, the domain is clean for about 15 years already with not one paid backlink.

This is not about a keyword (it is site:domain.com) but the main page (all other pages are fine) of a domain not being indexed.

This kind of thing seems to happen when your website overall is fine but the page you want to rank is over optimized in some way, so Google chooses a different page to rank in its place.

Or the content of this page is too thin
or maybe the algo is testing a few other landing pages for this domain.

That would be a logical explanation, still however i can´t imagine the page being over optimized, not to mention it is weird to simply de-index the mainpage of a website and keep the rest alive.

It does sound logical like i said since page 2 jumped 300% in traffic, but the fact it does not like the mainpage scares me a bit for future updates PLUS when searching the domain you are missing the sitelinks search box results which are normally shown below the main page

In my experience, this happens when a link penalty is imposed. But don't take my word for it.

Maybe page 2 has a lower bounce rate or better and fresher content.

Any possibility of duplicate content between the two pages in question? Or between the page that's gone and any other part of the website?

It is a tube with hourly updates. Hosted content so no embed stuff. Custom design.
Imagine we are talking about the pornhub mainpage. This clearly looks like a penalty, for whatever reason i have no idea about. Maybe i should start buying backlinks for the first time in my life, google seems to appreciate that

Well, a few days later it seems the homepage has been "picked up" again. It still feels weird why google would totally remove a main page from the results.
Anyway, as i said earlier, traffic wise there wasnt much of an issue since other pages were getting more juice but still, don't touch my mainpage dude.

Thanks for telling.

Problem with Google is that it thinks it is the only medium to search for erotic stuff. But the truth is that there are so many social media sites that we don't rely on Google now.

If a person has to look for erotic stuff, he will by hook or crook find it. Its better you create a separate platform for it.

It is really hard to guess without seeing your site. I had something like this happen to my sites that were recent and after some time got the homepage reindexing again.

No, nothing. I only requested a re-index in search console.

could be just a dumb technical issue. Have you checked:
- is the page marked as no-index?
- Is robots.txt blocking the frontpage?
- Is the canonical tag set correctly?
- Have you looked in the lumen database to see if you had received a DMCA but didn't get the notice?

Those are some issues I see with 95% of sites.

I knew this was going to happen. I'll predict that 'tranny' and 'shemale' sites will be among the next to go, as well as 'step sister' etc (if they aren't already).

Well. We're probably the 5% then. All looks fine again, it was only a 3/4 days google dance (i hope).

What used to be my biggest site now shows 0 results when i Google site:domain.com
It has 18-21 sections

Anyone have specific articles that talk about this? Any ideas how to fix this? Would it be best to for those with h "teen" in domain name to non-teen urls ?

Just noticed similar thing on one my domain , frontpage not showed at all , first link showed is 2257 link and all other galleries. Checked other domain, that one seems to be fine. My first guess why this happened, is due poor content on frontpage of affected domain.
