To give a lot of people a feeling to be a part of this fiction world to enjoy it in the same way like we who just born with white skin - just missing of pigments. It don't hurt you and me in any way and may can help others to identify with characters. I feel bad when I imagine a black kid that loves fantasy have to feel to be not a part, just cause it's black.

I really can't understand why this is such a problem. In the end I don't know any other way than calling people who have a problem with this racists - but I don't do that and i do not want to bring this discussion in this direction.

I understand discussions about changes in characters - and maybe yes the series will be shit when it comes. Our parents, and our parents parents (possibly) complained about similar stuff when things were adapting for a newer generation. Like all living things, we adapt to our environment and the things around us.

Something like Vikings is a historic show, not a fictional show. It's based on actual events that transpired.

Here's the thing. Someone takes an IP like The Witcher, which is based on books. The books describe a specific person. People imagine this person in their head based on this text. Then they take this blonde girl and replace her with black woman. Her being black does not contribute to the story, she's just there for the sake of ticking off some checkboxes.

As The Porn Nerd said, someone could easily make a brand new IP that has gay or black or whatever characters built into it as part of the story. I'm sure there is a whole rich history of medieval/ancient African stories and myths that would be very enjoyable to watch, however if someone like Kunta Kinte was cast as a white woman in a remake of Roots it would look stupid, no?
