Russian Doomsday Sub Belgorod Spotted in the Arctic

Wouldn't take much to travel down to CA an wipe out the coast for many years. Think Putin will use it or is he playing a game of chess to keep America out of the war?

A Russian Navy submarine that carries bus-sized nuclear torpedoes was spotted in the Arctic after sparking headlines earlier this week over fears of a nuclear weapons test, according to new photos published on Wednesday.

Project 09852 Belgorod was spotted on the surface operating in the Barents Sea, on Sept. 22 and Sept. 27, near the Kola Peninsula, USNI News contributor H I Sutton reported Wednesday for Naval News.

On Monday, Italian newspaper La Republica reported that military officials in Europe had warned that the submarine had traveled to the Kara Sea to test its Poseidon torpedoes.

Pentagon officials did not provide any specific information on Belgorod’s movement when contacted by USNI News earlier this week. However, a defense official played down the submarine’s recent operations in general.

“I don’t have any information to provide on [Belgorod], a senior military official told reporters on Monday.
“I know it’s not a satisfying answer other than to say again, we have not changed our posture.”

The Poseidons, first revealed in 2015, are strategic nuclear weapons designed to circumvent the West’s growing ballistic missile defense capability.

The concept calls for the 80-foot nuclear torpedoes to be armed with up to a 100-megaton warhead that could be launched from thousands of miles away from a coastal target.

The explosion would “destroy important economic installations of the enemy in coastal areas and cause guaranteed devastating damage to the country’s territory by creating wide areas of radioactive contamination, rendering them unusable for military, economic or other activity for a long time,” according to a translation of a Russian presentation caught on camera by the BBC in 2015.

The boat, based on an Oscar-class guided-missile submarine design, formally entered the Russian Navy during a July ceremony, USNI News reported. Belgorod is part of Russia’s specialized submarine force, the Main Directorate of Deep Sea Research — known as the Russian acronym GUGI, (Glavnoye Upravleniye Glubokovodnykh Issledovaniy).

Why would Putin want to help the US?

I'm thinking more that CA is where much of the porn is shot. Although it is spread out to places like Vegas - Florida - NY - Montreal - Vancouver and Toronto including smaller locations taking out CA would be a huge blow to the porn industry. Putin doesn't like porn - probably because his right arm is weak and paralyzed so he's frustrated LOL

Nailed it! That's a special anti-porn sub. Putin says: "stop masturbating, we need more soldiers!"

It's all saber rattling.
We make such maneuvers as well. It's a statement that "don't forget, you are weak with this".

After the original invasion of Crimea, Obama was flying a continuous stream of B1's over the north pole and turning back. That shortens the launch window for offensive or defensive attack.
It was a message.

These things happen all the time. Not worried and I don't think anyone should be really alarmed over it as that is somewhat the intention.

One really just has to ask if, knowing a retaliatory strike would devastate you, are you willing to go down this path of no return.

I'm sure Putin is still a rational man. And even more so, his commanders that would have to execute that order.

The government may implode before we get there.

I would tend to agree with you except my question would be that this particular sub has one job and one job only - not to launch regular missiles but a friggin huge one that could wipe out several coastlines for years. I mean look at the size of it? Seems odd that American lost it's location and now it's close to where it can do a great deal of damage.

I guess the difference would be you can threaten someone with a gun for their lunch money - so why bring a tank?

Also - his generals and those who follow out the orders may just say "no" since there seems to be a growing support to get rid of Putin over Ukraine. Added to the pipelines being blown up under water - which was blamed on Russia - this show of force may trigger a man who doesn't like to loose much less feel humiliated by Ukraine and his own people.

It is a game. We all play it.
After all the US has Nuke Subs around the Baltic, the Arctic, the Mediterranean, Pacific etc... we surround them with'm. Not even to mention the French and Brit's.

If you intend to do it as a aggressor, not a defender, you are not going to announce it. You loose a element of surprise.
You expect a response from a threat ? If you get it, there will be a new one, and a new one....

I might expect them as they are being defeated, to strike the 5 reactors when the winds are favorable to them with conventional weapons.
OR
They might have already planted computer code to destroy this remotely by having control of the plants.

You can't let a verbal warning deter you or you will be faced with a never ending call for your lunch money.

Putler has been pulling this off with what they call a MOST MASSIVE ARMY COMPLEX ( fear me ). And the only way they have ever won a battle is with scorched earth programs of aggression. Not well thought out battlefield tactics. Just look back at Syria.

Not all that many arms have really flowed into UA and they seem to almost have defeated them on their own. Western help just did it faster, with less loss of life. Western support did keep the economy up.

I will tell you that those members in the EU understand these threats very well. Probably the only reason NATO still exists. The only place they could consider to use nukes is the UA, since a hit on any NATO member will get a reply from ALL OF THEM. - Assured Destruction and a quick end of the story -

If you know there is a limit to what you will put up with, then the time to act on it is at the beginning.
Otherwise why wait, Don't give it up a dime at a time on the asking, surrender now !
