Question for guitar players

So I'm freaking stuck over the timing of a certain song that I want to play, and could use your help.

If you start listening to the rythym guitar at around 0:14 it sounds like he's play 3 x 1/16th notes and then resting on the 4th. I cannot for the life of me "see" what he is doing in the bar right after it. I can hear the change, but I just can't figure out how to play it. I thought maybe he is resting on the first then playing the rest but when I try it it just doesn't sound right.

What am I doing wrong?

you got it right, rest the first beat and then play the next 3 beats

perhaps the reason it doesn't sound right when you play it, is the picking pattern. its up-down-up (up is towards the ceiling, down is towards the floor)

This has a weird timing. I had to set my sound brenner to 99bpm to play it.

Hi Wanka,

Thanks. I knew or assumed anyway that the picking pattern was up and down. This is the way I'm trying to play it. Yet, I still can't get it.

Here's what I'm doing: For the first part, I'm starting from up, meaning my first strum is playing down. So my pattern, starting from up, is down-up-down-rest x 16. Sounds good, but after that I completely fall off after the change.

I thought I was just losing my mind, but check this out

This guy is a much better player than I am, but I think he is also making a mistake at the exact same spot (at 24 seconds in). I think he is just playing the same part over again and not accounting for the change. Am I right?

99bpm sounds right. I didn't check but it sounds like 99.

Do you like Sound Brenner? Do you recommend it?

No this doesn't sound right to me. if you listen carefully he's still strumming 3 times during the second part.

I was about to tell you what I think I am hearing but I can't even describe it. I really can't seem to process this bit of music.

well the guy in that video is using all down strokes

down-up-down-rest is good for the first part

in the second part, try rest-up-down-up

you might be having trouble with the counting because think about it, the first part is down-up-down-rest and the second part is rest-up-down-up

so if you put those together, you get:

down-up-down-rest-rest-up-down-up

you're resting two beats in a row. that might be confusing you.

Thanks!

I've almost got it. In the second part when I do rest-up-down-up like you suggested, the first time sounds PERFECT... but then I immediately fuck it up because after rest-up-down-up, I am "up", and need to be down in order to continue (I think) to repeat this. When I try to move down I immediately screw up my timing and it sounds bad again. I tried just continuing from where I left off (up), and still screw it up.

As a rule my timnig is excellent. I struggle finding the right chords sometimes but never struggle finding the rhythm. Until this fucking song... sigh.

Ok thanks! I tried some software for my Apple phone. It sort of worked, but the haptics are too light I think, and I stopped using it after a while.

I find it works better if strapped to my upper arm, can really feel it on my bicep and it's even better if on my upper leg.

Too much going on with my hand to really feel it well when it's on my wrist.

You mean the higher part? It’s on the upbeat
