Is anyone into motorbikes

I am going to buy a scooter to do shoots once it gets warmer. I have a car, but I find i spend so much time in traffic, that my thought is get a scooter to go the shoots and zip past the traffic.

I just got a classic scooter cheap on ebay (this time of year less demand). But that is just for fun.

My thought is, is it worth removing the alcohol from petrel (I think they call it gas in the USA).

It is easy to remove.

The thing is, it attracts water and blocks the carburetor.

I think the classic bike needs the carburetor cleaned. Easy to do, but too cold to do it.

So is anyone into bikes and what say you on this.

By the way, to remove the alcohol, all you do is add some water (make life easy and add food colouring) shake, then leave to stand for 24 and it should separate out.

Of course it is probably less of a problem if you fill up and use the fuel quickly, but if you leave the bike to stand, then one suspects the moist with get in.

The other advantage of a scoter is that we are finding more tows charging you to go in with cars. Plus cheap on fuel.

I may look a dork, but I just think it will save so much time.

I don't know what you mean by cleaning the carburetor, but if I were to buy a scooter I would probably buy an electric one like the Seat Mo that you can remove the battery and recharge at home.

l looked into many options.

The electric scooter range is only 40 miles, as that range I can cycle or if I lived in a hilly area go for a decent electric bike.

However while range is low, the question is how long the batteries last.

I have just got a 1968 Honda scooter in almost perfect condition (4 stroke - 49cc). I got it cheap on ebay. Works great. It could last long after I am dead.

How long will an electric scooter last?

For half the price I can get a petrel scooter, that I can go 200 miles and fill up for £2, then drive off.

While charging it could cost me almost as much plus 5 hours or whatever to charge.

It is like electric cars. It would make me ill worrying about finding a spot to charge them.

In the UK the charging places are being ripped up for the copper by criminals.

The one with the removable battery has a grip and wheels like a suitcase.

You can charge it in the office or in garage plugs that are in common areas if there are any.

You can also charge it with solar panels if you have.

Paying for gasoline is not optional, but you can get electricity for a motorcycle for free or almost free.

In some countries you can get subsidies for electric mobility. Where I am up to €1.4k

Autonomy over 130 km. It works for any city in the EU. For the United States, I have no idea, cities are very poorly planned...

I think I got it wrong, it is Ethanol. Not sure if it is the same as alcohol.

E10 is a biofuel made up of 90% regular unleaded and 10% ethanol – hence the E10 name.

I probably will just buy E5 and risk it.

Ethanol is mixed into a ready gasoline "feedstock" at the fuel terminal. Typically, it's done by splash blending in fuel trucks. The ethanol itself is trucked in by big rig or rail car (since it can't go through the same pipelines as other parts of the fuel). Once it is blended into gasoline, there's no feasible way to separate ethanol from the gasoline. Once it's in, it's in to stay.

Unless.....it absorbs so much water that it undergoes phase separation. In that case, both the ethanol and the water will separate out together. Now you've got all or some of the ethanol out of the gasoline. Unfortunately, the gasoline left behind has lost a lot of its octane value because the ethanol will strip out valuable fuel components as it is leaving.

So adding water to gasoline just to remove the ethanol you don't want is not a good idea. It would do far more harm than good.

so you will end up with some pretty poor performing gasoline that will probably hurt the scooter more than help it

the ethanol is not a problem unless you have gas just sitting in the tank for a long period of time so the better solution is that if you are going to sit the bike for a while, drain the tank or add stabilizer

If I buy a new scooter, it should be set up for such fuel.

My old 1968 scooter, may only be used a few times.

Not sure what the fuel is like in the tank, as it could be years old.

I will look at it once it gets warmer.

if you have an old bike with fuel in the tank and you don't know when it went in you should just automatically drain it

it is not worth destroying an engine over $5 worth of gas

but you do what you want, i still think it is a great idea for you to go play with gasoline, remember if you can't see the level in the tank you can use a lighter to get better light

If it is clear I will put it into my lawnmower

Years ago I used a small amount to clear the sink.

turns out a bad idea as the flames shot up in the air

and poring water down did not help

why would you think that gasoline is a good thing to use to clear a sink? do you just randomly pour chemicals down your sink with no awareness of what they do?

"hey, my sink is clogged i think i'll put some fryer grease down it to see if that will help"
